Eleven-time world surf champion Kelly Slater will return to compete at the 2019 Vissla Sydney Surf Pro later this year, the veteran has confirmed. Slater, 47, will make his way back to Manly Beach more than two decades after winning the event in 1997.
The most decorated surfer in the sport’s history will return for the 2019 circuit after being awarded a wildcard by World Surf League (SL) officials, despite the fact he missed eight of the 11 events held last season. Surfing News South Wales CEO Luke Madden welcomed Slater’s return, per Surfer Today:
“We are over the moon to have Kelly confirmed for the 2019 Vissla Sydney Surf Pro. His involvement will strengthen and enhance what was already looking like being a huge event.”
