This policy explains what personal data DailyStoke collects when you visit dailystoke.com, why we collect it and what you can do about it. Questions or requests: hello@dailystoke.com.
What we collect
- Comments: if you comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Comments may be checked by Akismet, a spam-filtering service from Automattic. An anonymised string made from your email address may be sent to Gravatar to show your profile picture.
- Emails to us: if you write to us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.
- Visit statistics: we use Google Analytics, through Google Site Kit, to count visits and see which pages are useful. It uses cookies and collects data such as pages viewed, approximate location and device type.
- Clicks on partner links: we count clicks on links to partner sites so we know which pages help readers. When you follow a partner link, the partner’s site may set its own cookies to record that you came from DailyStoke.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not ask for payment details. We never knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Why we use it
- To publish and moderate comments and protect the site from spam
- To answer your messages
- To understand how the site is used and improve it
- To be paid by partners for referrals, which keeps DailyStoke free to read
Where consent is required, for example for analytics cookies, we rely on your consent. Otherwise we rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the site.
Cookies
- WordPress cookies remember your comment details if you choose, and keep logged-in users signed in.
- Analytics cookies from Google help us count visits.
- Partner cookies are set by the sites you visit through our links, not by DailyStoke. Their privacy policies apply.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.
How long we keep it
Comments and their metadata are kept until the comment is removed. Emails are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. Analytics data is kept for the period set in Google Analytics.
Who we share it with
Only the services that help us run the site: our hosting provider, Automattic (Akismet and Gravatar) and Google (Analytics). Some of these process data outside the UK and EU under standard safeguards.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, or take a copy. California residents have similar rights under the CCPA. Email hello@dailystoke.com and we will reply within one month. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes
We may update this policy when the site changes. The version on this page applies.
