Racing is where bookmakers earn their reputations. A punter who backs a 7/2 shot in the morning and watches it go off at 6/1 remembers which firm paid the bigger price, and which one did not. The best horse racing betting sites in the UK are the ones that get the everyday details right: Best Odds Guaranteed from early morning, extra places on the big handicaps, a stream that loads before the off, and an app that does not freeze as the field turns for home.
DailyStoke compared seven trusted, UK-licensed bookmakers on exactly those things. Every welcome offer comes from the bookmaker’s own terms, and every app rating comes from the UK App Store or Google Play.
Our top pick for racing: Betfred

How we rated the horse racing bookmakers
We gave most weight to the things that make a difference over a season, not a single bet. Best Odds Guaranteed came first: when a horse drifts, BOG pays the starting price if it is bigger than the price you took. Then racing promotions that run every week, such as extra places and money back specials. Then streaming, the app, the range of bet types, and finally the welcome offer. A big sign-up bonus is pleasant, but it is spent in a week; a bookmaker’s BOG policy pays out for years.
All seven are licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, which we checked on the Commission’s public register.
The 7 best UK betting sites for horse racing
1. Betfred: the punter favourite for Best Odds Guaranteed
Fred Done’s firm has racing in its bones, and its terms show it. Since 8 January 2026, Betfred has guaranteed the best odds on all UK and Irish races, online and in its shops, for bets placed from 8am on race day, and it says there is no limit on the extra payout. Ante-post bets and online Lucky 15, 31 and 63 bets are excluded. Regular racing offers include a free bet up to £10 if your horse finishes second in races of five runners or more, bonuses of up to 25% on Lucky 15s, 31s and 63s, and a 10% bonus on winning tricasts.
The welcome offer is the most generous of the traditional bookmakers here: bet £10 at Evens or bigger and you get five £10 free bets, three for sports and two for accas, valid for seven days. The app holds 4.6 stars on both the App Store and Google Play.
New customers only. Register, deposit with Debit Card, and place first bet £10+ at Evens (2.0)+ on Sports within 7 days to get 3 x £10 in Sports Free Bets & 2 x £10 in Acca Free Bets within 10 hours of settlement. 7-day expiry. Eligibility & payment exclusions apply. Full T&Cs apply. 18+ | GambleAware.org
2. bet365: the most popular horse racing betting app, by ratings
With 4.7 stars from more than 450,000 ratings, bet365’s app is the most rated in British betting, and its racing section is built for volume. Best Odds Guaranteed applies to UK and Irish races from 8am on the standard win and each-way markets. bet365’s Racing Value bundle adds early prices on every race, no 5p Rule 4 deductions and non-runner no bet on selected ante-post markets. Showcasts give you fixed prices on forecasts and tricasts, so you know your return before the race.
New customers get £30 in Bet Credits for a £10 bet with the Promo Code 365GMBLR. The catch is the Trustpilot score of 1.3, where complaints focus on account restrictions for winning punters.
New Bet365 Customers Only. Min deposit requirement. Free Bets are paid as Bet Credits and are available for use upon settlement of bets to value of qualifying deposit. Min odds, bet and payment method exclusions apply. Returns exclude Bet Credits stake. Registration Required. The bonus code 365GMBLR can be used during registration but does not change the offer amount in any way. Time limits and T&Cs apply. 18+ | New customers only | GambleAware.org
3. Coral: extra places and a free-to-play racing game
Coral has taken bets on racing since the 1920s, and the sport is still at the heart of its site. You get Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish racing from 8am, Extra Place Races on the big handicaps, and Pipped at the Post refunds when your horse is beaten narrowly. The Racing Super Series is a free prediction game, and the Racing Bet Builder lets you combine selections from the same race.
The welcome deal is low risk: a £5 bet at 1/2 or bigger brings six £5 free bets, valid for seven days. The app scores 4.7 from about 69,000 ratings.
New UK + ROI customers only. Certain deposit methods & bet types excl. Min first £5 bet within 14 days of account reg at min odds 1/2 to get 6 x £5 free bets (selected sportsbook markets only, valid 7 days, stakes not returned). Restrictions + T&Cs apply. 18+ | New customers only | GambleAware.org
4. Spreadex: racing spread betting and free live streams
Spreadex is the outlier, and the best reviewed of the seven on Trustpilot at 4.4. Alongside fixed odds, it offers spread betting on racing: back or sell the total distances between winners, the number of winning favourites, or a jockey’s performance across a meeting. Every UK and Irish race is streamed live to anyone with a funded account, with no need to bet on each race. Its ‘2nd to a Rag’ insurance refunds a losing win single up to £25 if the winner was 33/1 or bigger.
Bet £10 at 1/2 or bigger and you get £60 in free bets, including racing spread bets. Remember that spread betting losses can exceed your stake. Spreadex does not offer Best Odds Guaranteed.
New customers only. Spread betting losses can exceed deposit. Place a £10 fixed odds single or £10 each-way bet at minimum odds of 1/2 and get 3 x £10 free fixed odds bets, 3 x £5 Total Goals football spread bets and 3 x £5 Winning Favourites spread bets and a £1 racing Race Index spread bet. Only the win part of each-way bets counts. Qualifying bet cannot be cashed out early. Free spread bets require a full spread betting account. Free bets expire 28 days after being awarded. Promo Code is optional. Full terms apply. 18+ | T&Cs apply | GambleAware.org
5. Matchbook: a reputable exchange for laying horses
On a betting exchange you bet against other punters rather than the bookmaker, so you can lay a horse to lose as well as back it to win. Matchbook takes a small commission on winnings instead of building a margin into the odds, so its prices are often bigger than a bookmaker’s. Its app has 4.7 stars on iOS, and Trustpilot rates it 4.1.
New customers who sign up with the Promo Code NEW30 can get £30 in free bets after £20 of qualifying bets. Read the terms before you start, as part of the qualifying stake must go on exchange bets.
New Matchbook players only. Sign up with Promo Code NEW30. Bet and settle 1x £10 bet on Matchbook Exchange at odds of 2.0 or more. Bet and settle 1x £10 bet on a Bet Builder or Multiple at odds of 3.0 or more, with min 3 selections. Within 72 hours of qualifying bets settling you will receive 1x £10 Exchange Free Bet, 1x £10 Multiples Free Bet and 1x £10 Bet Builder Free Bet. Free bets expire at the end of the listed event or 7 days after crediting. Users making their first deposit by Skrill, Neteller or Paysafecard will not qualify for this promotion. T&Cs apply. 18+ | New customers only | GambleAware.org
6. QuinnBet: trusted for fast payouts
QuinnBet scores 3.8 on Trustpilot from more than 4,000 reviews, where fast withdrawals earn regular praise. Best Odds Guaranteed applies to UK and Irish races from 10am, with a maximum extra payout of £150 per race.
Instead of a free bet for your first stake, QuinnBet gives back 50% of your first day’s losses as a free bet up to £25. It suits punters who place a few bets on the day they join rather than one big punt.
New UK customers only. Bet £10+ on any sportsbook markets at odds of evens (2.00) or greater. No cash out. Get 50% back of your first day's losses (from first bet settlement until 23:59) as a Free Bet up to £25, valid for 7 days. Min. 3 bets on different events required, with 2 bets being at least 50% of your largest stake. Place at least 1 bet of £10+ at odds 2.00+ to receive a £5 Free Bet even if your account is up or losses are under £5. T&Cs apply. 18+ | New customers only | GambleAware.org
7. Unibet: racing streams and international racing
Unibet streams around 100,000 horse and dog races a year, and its racecards cover exactas, trifectas and superfectas for international racing as well as British forecasts and tricasts. The app holds 4.3 on iOS. New customers who opt in and bet £20 at Evens or bigger get £40 in free bets, paid by debit card or instant bank transfer only.
New GB customers only. Opt in, deposit and Bet £20+ on sports at min odds of 2.0+ (1/1) for £40 in Free Bets within 7 days of registration. Debit cards or instant bank transfers only. Free bets expire within 7 days of issue. Geographical restrictions and T&C’s apply. 18+ | New customers only | T&Cs apply | GambleAware.org

Horse racing free bets and offers for October
The welcome offers above are a one-off. What matters over a season are the regular racing promotions:
- Best Odds Guaranteed: Betfred, bet365, Coral and Unibet from 8am, QuinnBet from 10am. Betfred stands out for having no cap on the extra payout.
- Money back specials: Betfred refunds second place as a free bet up to £10; Coral’s Pipped at the Post covers narrow defeats; Spreadex’s ‘2nd to a Rag’ covers big-priced winners.
- Extra places: Coral runs Extra Place Races daily, which turn a fourth or fifth place into an each-way return.
- Multiples bonuses: Betfred adds up to 25% to Lucky 15, 31 and 63 returns.
Always check whether racing bets qualify for a welcome offer. Most of the seven say “sports” in their terms, and a few exclude certain bet types.

New horse racing betting sites worth a look
Two newer names are building a racing following. BestOdds, licensed in August 2025, puts Best Odds Guaranteed on UK racing at the centre of its pitch. easyBet, from the easyGroup stable, pairs yes-or-no Predictions with an exchange powered by Matchbook. Neither has the track record of the seven above, so treat them as a second account. See our easyBet review and our guide to new UK bookmakers.

Horse racing bet types explained
- Win: your horse must win.
- Each way: two bets in one, a win bet and a place bet. The place part pays a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth, if your horse finishes in the places.
- Forecast and tricast: pick the first two or three home in the right order. Reverse forecasts cover either order for two stakes.
- Lucky 15: four selections in 15 bets (singles, doubles, trebles and a four-fold). Bookmakers often add bonuses if only one horse wins.
- Placepot: a Tote pool bet in which you pick a horse to be placed in each of the first six races at a meeting.
- Lay bet: on an exchange such as Matchbook, you bet that a horse will lose.
- Spread bet: at Spreadex, you bet on whether a number, such as the total winning distances, will be higher or lower than the firm’s prediction. Wins and losses grow with how right or wrong you are.
Our tips for betting on horse racing
- Take early prices where BOG applies. If your bookmaker guarantees the best odds, taking an early price costs you nothing if the horse drifts.
- Bet each way in big fields. In a handicap of 16 runners or more, the place terms often pay four or five places, and more on extra place promotions.
- Keep two or three accounts. Prices differ by a point or two between bookmakers on the same horse, and over a season that adds up.
- Read the going. Soft ground changes races. Check the official going and any changes on the morning of the race.
- Set a deposit limit before Cheltenham. Big festivals mean lots of races in a short time. Decide what you can afford before the first race, not after the fourth.
