Swimming sisters Cate and Bronte Campbell will return as part of Team Australia at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games after both were named as part of their new leadership group for 2019 and 2021.
Siblings Cate (two) and Bronte (one) have won three Olympic gold medals between them, but both were agonised to miss out on individual medals at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Swimming Australia chief executive Leigh Russell spoke to Phil Lutton of the Sydney Morning Herald and spoke of the team he and his peers were attempting to form:
“What we wanted to do was to create a much more rigorous and professional approach to the whole program, not just an election campaign which has been done in the past.
“Basically it was peer-elected and we were looking more broadly than just success in the pool. We encouraged people to think about the whole person as a leader.”
