The Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will pioneer a green-minded vision at next year’s showcase after it was announced the medal distributed to athletes will all be made from 100-percent recycled electronic waste.
The designs are still yet to be confirmed, but BBC Sport indicated earlier in February that organisers were on course to meet their requirements for the amount of electronic waste needed by March.
Recycled metal has been extracted from devices such as laptops and old mobile phones. In contrast, only 30% of materials used to construct the medals at Rio 2016 were recycled.
