Organisers for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic and Paralympic Games have said the venues for both competitions will be completely smoke-free.
In a move similar to that taken by 2018 Winter Olympic Games hosts PyengChang, South Korea, event locations in Japan will be cleared in an attempt to rail against smoking and tobacco.
A statement read: “Based on the development of the law and regulations and guidance from the IOC, Tokyo 2021 has decided to adopt a stricter non-smoking policy to protect the health and safety of athletes, spectators and officials,” the organisers said in a statement.
“(Tokyo 2021) will ban smoking in indoor venues, outdoor venues and in venues’ secure perimeters operated by Tokyo 2021.”
