American swim icon Jason Lezak will be inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame next month as recognition for his contributions to the sport.
Lezak, 43, is an eight-time Olympic gold medal-winner (four golds, two silvers and two bronzes) and is best known as the anchor who played a big hand in guiding Team USA to victory in the 4×100-metre men’s relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. That went down as the fastest relay splits of all time and one of the best individual performances.
He was recognised by Sports Illustrated that year for “most memorable single performance by an American at the Beijing Games,” and he’ll be honoured more than a decade later on May 18 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
