Team Italy were crowned 2019 World Cup Series Nations Trophy champions on Sunday following a frantic end to the season in Marseille, France.
World Sailing TV provided a roundup of the season climax’s final day:
The host nation joined Italy on three gold medals during the final event but couldn’t prevent the latter from sealing the world title thanks to their late contribution of one bronze and two more silvers. Singapore sailor Ryan Lo held the overall lead until Saturday, when Giovanni Coccoluto edged ahead. The Italian champions was quick to congratulate his team following his victory.
“The Italian team have been amazing this week. I’m really proud to be part of the team. All of the guys have been happy out there sailing. They have been focused and working hard. We are a young team in this cycle so I’m happy for the whole team. It gives us good motivation.”
