Australia continued to enjoy a successful first weekend as World Para Swimming World Series hosts on Saturday as Ellie Cole, Tiffany Thomas Kane and Thomas Michel each clinched golds for their country.
The trio triumphed at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, with veteran Cole (S9) succeeding in her home town to take top spot in the women’s 100-metre backstroke multi-class. She said after the race she had pressure to impress from the stands:
“I had my niece here tonight and I promised her I’d win gold, obviously it’s out of my hands, so she’s going to be really excited when I take it upstairs and put it around her neck – hopefully I’ve inspired a future Olympian here tonight, being my niece, no pressure!”
Michel (SB14) won the men’s 100-metre breaststroke in a time of 1:07.36, while Thomas Kane added the women’s 100-metre breaststroke multi-class to her 50-metre crown.
