Some fans were left unhappy after Italo Ferreira raked in the top prize at the 2019 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, beating Kolohe Andino in the final to deny him his first World Surf League Championship Tour win.
Brazilian-born Ferreira won the Red Bull Airborne Gold Coast just a few days prior and again demonstrated his talents to clinch first place, even if many in attendance didn’t agree with the judges.
Andino had his support at Duranbah beach and was expected to have done enough for the victory before allowing his rival one more full rotation at the climax that appeared to settle the result. Some spectators made it known to the judges that they didn’t agree as they walked past their tent.
The first Championship Tour event of the year goes to Brazil as Ferreira got his season up and running in style, while Andino’s search for a maiden CT victory in his eighth WSL season goes on.
