Hungary were crowned champions of the second annual FINA/LEN Europa Cup on Sunday after they defeated silver medallists Croatia 10-8 on their own turf.
The defending champions were defeated in the final and had to settle for a runner-up place after winning the inaugural tournament in 2018.
Spain took third spot after they also won their last fixture by two goals, besting Italy 9-7.
The top three finishers (Hungary, Croatia, Spain) will now advance to the World League Super Final, which will be held in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, between June 18 and June 23. There, they’ll face hosts Serbia, along with Australia, Japan, Canada and Kazakhstan.
