Two-time Olympic silver medallist Jazz Carlin has announced her retirement from swimming at the age of 28 and will not compete for a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Carlin won medals in the 400-metre and 800-metre freestyle events at the Rio 2016 Olympics, but she told BBC Sport of her decision to give up the sport following illness and complications with injuries:
“It’s been a really tough, emotional decision and I’ve been in tears looking back at old videos of my races, but it feels like the right time to stop. It’s just been an incredible journey and something I’ll cherish forever.”
