Jack Burnell and Alice Dearing became the first British swimmers to book their places at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships this summer following their performances in the first leg of the 2019 FINA Marathon Swim World Series.
Those six swimmers from Great Britain who travelled to the Marathon Swim World Series in Doha, Qatar, knew that the fastest male and female finisher would guarantee their spot at the World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, in July.
Burnell overcame the hamstring injury that hampered his 2018 and was ultimately 12 seconds off the winning pace, but even his 12th-place finish was enough to guarantee his place on Team GB.
Dearing came 34th in her marathon and was 36 seconds ahead of her next British compatriot and competitor, Danielle Huskisson, who finished 35th.
