Santa Cruz native Marin Brandt will prone paddle 24 miles across Monterey Bay in an attempt to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Man and Woman of the Year is a fundraising initiative focused on curing blood cancer, which was founded in 1990 and has raised more than $327 million within 83 local communities in the name of LLS research.
The Cure Creators are a fundraising group founded by David Webb, whose bid to be crowned 2019 Man of the Year will be aided by Marin’s 24-mile paddle from Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz to the Monterey Fisherman’s Wharf.
Marin’s journey has been inspired by Liam and Giselle, two child heroes who have beaten Leukemia—twice in Liam’s case—and still live life to the fullest.
Weather conditions will decide the date—finalised five to seven days before Marin sets off—but the target window is May 22 to May 27 for a noon start.
