Clinique La Prairie Review: Medical Longevity or an Exceptionally Expensive Wellness Retreat?

Clinique La Prairie review: our Master Detox week in Montreux, what Revitalisation adds, which tests are useful and full CHF prices.

Clinique La Prairie Review: Medical Longevity or an Exceptionally Expensive Wellness Retreat?

At Chenot Palace Weggis, the program worked mostly by taking things away. About 850 calories a day, very little choice and a lot of time to think about lunch.

Clinique La Prairie in Montreux works the other way round. It adds. My second morning started at 7 a.m. with a DNA test, and the week kept going from there: daily doctor check-ups, blood tests, a microbiome kit, heavy metal screening, injections and a supplement plan to take home.

By the end I knew more about my body on paper than I ever had. Which is the question this review is really about: does more health data, and more time with doctors, actually make you healthier?

The short answer: some of it can. The doctor time, standard blood work and a dietitian who sends you home with a realistic plan are genuinely useful, if you act on them. Much of the rest is either an interesting biomarker with no proven treatment attached, or a wellness treatment dressed in medical language. And no Clinique La Prairie program has published evidence that it extends healthy life.

One clarification before we start. I did the seven-day Master Detox. I have not done Revitalisation or taken the clinic’s proprietary CLP Extract, so everything I say about those is based on the clinic’s current program pages and published research, not experience.

Verdict: Clinique La Prairie is at its best as a very expensive, very calm medical check-in: doctors you can actually talk to, a dense set of lab tests and a dietitian who gives you a plan. Its weakest point is the gap between what it measures and what it promises, especially around “detoxification” and the undisclosed CLP Extract. Book it for the attention and the diagnostics, not for rejuvenation.

What I actually did: the Master Detox week

The hospitality side, with plenty of photos, is in my LocalsInsider account of Clinique La Prairie. Here is what matters for a health review.

I paid CHF 19,000 for the week at the time. That is not today’s price, which I come to below.

The room was large and quiet, with a terrace over the lake and about a dozen pillows on the bed. There were so few other guests that the place felt almost private. I swam every day and used the saunas a lot.

The food was the hard part. Mornings were herbal infusions, seeds, fruit and three spoons of porridge. The one real meal was dinner: personalized plates of fish and vegetables, and they were excellent. I was still hungry for most of six days.

The medical side was busy. A welcome check-up, a mid-week diagnostic session, a final planning session and daily check-ins with the doctor. Two private sessions with a dietitian, whose main message was unglamorous: eat everything in moderation, and choose fiber over refined carbs.

The treatments went from kidney-cleansing drops on day two to the day-three cleanse, a bottle of medical syrup to flush the intestines. It made for a tough night. There were detox injections, two or three one-minute cryotherapy sessions at -180°C, massages and facials.

What did I come home with? A feeling of being “a few kilos lighter” after the cleanse, which is gut contents and water, not fat. A supplement plan that I followed for about a year. And a lasting habit of avoiding bread, pasta and rice, now balanced, in fairness, by a fondness for fries, prosecco and nachos. The clinic did not keep me on track once I left. That part was up to me.

Master Detox vs Revitalisation: two different products

People talk about “doing La Prairie” as if it were one thing. It isn’t. The current programs share a base of lab work, consultations and wellness treatments, then diverge.

Two things stand out. First, the Master Detox I did has changed since my stay. It now adds glycan and ceramide screening, structured “index” assessments for nutrition, wellbeing and movement, and post-program calls with a doctor and a nutritionist. Second, the Revitalisation imaging is not automatic: the clinic says those exams happen “only after initial evaluation with your referring doctor,” based on age and medical history. That is how it should be.

The tests: what more data does and doesn’t buy

This is where Clinique La Prairie earns its money, or doesn’t. A useful test is one that can change what you or your doctor does next. An interesting test is one that produces a number nobody knows how to act on.

Here is how the main components rate on our six-level evidence scale.

ComponentProgramWhat the evidence supportsOur rating
Doctor-led history, exam, standard bloods, ECGAllCore preventive medicine; useful when it changes careEstablished for a defined indication

A few deserve more than a line.

The ceramide test is the most interesting thing on the menu. The CERT2 score, built on blood ceramides and phospholipids, stayed linked to heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death after adjusting for cholesterol in a Finnish cohort (Hilvo et al., European Heart Journal Open, 2021). It is a real biomarker. It is not yet part of the standard risk scores doctors use, and a better prediction is not the same as a treatment.

Glycans are similar: IgG glycosylation patterns change with age and track some health markers (Krištić et al., Journals of Gerontology A, 2014). Fascinating science. But a “glycan age” older than your passport doesn’t come with a proven fix beyond the usual ones: exercise, diet, sleep, not smoking.

The nutrition DNA test is the weakest. In the DIETFITS randomized trial of 609 adults, a genotype pattern supposed to predict whether you’d do better on low-fat or low-carb eating made no difference to weight loss over 12 months (Gardner et al., JAMA, 2018). The clinic’s test is its own design, and we found no published validation of it.

The microbiome report is a conversation piece. When US National Institute of Standards and Technology researchers sent identical stool samples to consumer testing companies, results varied widely, and one company called the same sample both “healthy” and “unhealthy” (NIST study, Communications Biology). The clinic’s lab may do better. It hasn’t published how it compares.

Epigenetic clocks are improving fast, but experts reviewing aging biomarkers say they still lack the validation needed to guide individual decisions (Moqri et al., Nature Medicine, 2024).

So, back to the opening question. More data helps when it finds something treatable: a vitamin deficiency, raised blood pressure, a high calcium score. Beyond that, a validated test is not proof that any treatment attached to it works, and a change in a molecular marker is not disease prevented. The wider science is in our guide to longevity clinic tests and which biomarkers are useful.

Supplements, injections and the proprietary products

Here the clinic gets vaguer. The Master Detox page lists a “CLP Cellular Genomic Detox,” described as a “100% natural nutraceutical protocol,” plus detox drops, an herbal booster and two daily “complexes.” Revitalisation adds an FFS1-5 Activator, a daily HP-Cellular Active booster and an “immuno-therapeutic supplement.” None of the program pages gives ingredients or doses.

The antioxidant injections are the same story: two in Master Detox, one in Revitalisation, three in Premium, with no published contents. I had injections during my stay and can tell you they happened. I can’t tell you what was in them, and neither can the website.

TreatmentWhat the evidence supportsOur rating
Intestinal “reboot cleanse”No good evidence that cleansing removes toxins; real side effects possibleInsufficient evidence
Antioxidant injectionsIngredients and doses not publishedInsufficient evidence
Proprietary supplement protocolsNo published formulations or trialsInsufficient evidence
Whole-body cryotherapyVery low-certainty evidence even for muscle sorenessSubjective wellness benefit
Massage, facial, reflexology, aerial yogaPleasant; no disease-prevention claim testedSubjective wellness benefit
CLP ExtractMouse and cell studies, no published human trial of the current formulaInsufficient evidence

On “detox,” the US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says studies of detox programs are few and of low quality, and that colon cleansing can have serious side effects, especially for people with bowel, kidney or heart disease (NCCIH, updated March 2025). Your liver and kidneys do the detoxing. A syrup flush mostly empties your gut, which explains my “few kilos lighter” rather neatly. Weight lost that way is not longevity gained.

What we know about CLP Extract

CLP Extract is the heart of Revitalisation and the clinic’s best-kept secret, in its own words: “our founding active ingredient perpetually updated.” The program page says it is “given in conjunction with bio-stimulants” and was “created to help regenerate the organism and fight the effects of aging.”

The clinic does not publish what it contains. Older press reports describe an oral extract of fetal sheep liver, and the peer-reviewed research we found is in mice and cells, with clinic involvement. We found no published human trial of the current product. The full investigation, including the history, the studies and the regulatory questions, is in Clinique La Prairie Revitalisation: what’s the science behind CLP Extract?

Medical oversight and risks

The supervision is real. Doctors run the week, the imaging in Revitalisation depends on a prior medical evaluation, and the program pages say fasting or juice days are adapted to your clinical situation. Master Detox also states plainly that it is “not a medical withdrawal program,” so it isn’t for alcohol or drug dependence.

What the pages don’t publish is a contraindication list. Restrictive eating days and intestinal cleansing are not neutral for everyone. Speak to your own doctor first if you are pregnant, have diabetes treated with medication, kidney, heart or bowel disease, or a history of eating disorders.

More imaging also has costs of its own. A CT scan involves radiation, and a brain MRI in a healthy person can turn up incidental findings that need further tests. Worth it if you have a reason to look; less obviously so as a luxury add-on.

A licensed medical team is not the same as scientific validation of every treatment on the menu. Clinique La Prairie is both a clinic and a spa, and the brochure doesn’t always say which is which.

Clinique La Prairie prices: what a week really costs

Unlike Chenot, where program and room are billed separately, Clinique La Prairie quotes all-in weekly prices. These are the “from” prices on the official program pages, checked October 2026.

ProgramLengthFromIncludedNot stated online
Master Detox7 daysCHF 20,950Standard room, full anti-inflammatory board, program, fitness and wellness facilities; airport transfers in Anji and Phuket onlyRoom upgrades, extra treatments, deposit and cancellation terms
Revitalisation7 daysCHF 31,800Luxury accommodation, full board, limousine transfer, program, facilitiesAs above
Revitalisation Premium7 daysCHF 50,250As Revitalisation, plus cardiology, CT, MRI, epigenetic testing and the Corsano wearableAs above

The pages don’t publish room supplements or à la carte treatment prices, so ask for a written quote before you commit. The Master Detox page also warns that surgery or anesthesia during the same stay “might interfere” with the program.

Will the benefits last?

The honest answer is that the clinic can’t make them last, and doesn’t claim to guarantee much. The Master Detox page says some guests lose weight “but we don’t guarantee kilos.”

What lasted for me was the dietitian’s advice and the supplement routine, for a while. That is a lifestyle outcome, and you could argue a good dietitian at home might have done the same for a fraction of the price. The current program’s post-stay calls are an improvement on what I had.

Feeling rested and lighter after a week of attention is real. It is not the same as improved healthspan, and nothing published shows these programs deliver that.

Clinique La Prairie vs Chenot Palace

The two get lumped together. They shouldn’t be. The LocalsInsider team’s side-by-side comparison of Chenot and Clinique La Prairie called one a bootcamp and the other medical-grade luxury, and that still feels right.

Chenot Palace Weggis is built around a strict fasting-mimicking diet, which at least has some human trial data behind the diet itself (see our Chenot Method investigation). Clinique La Prairie is built around consultations, lab work and proprietary products. Chenot made us hungry and grumpy. Clinique La Prairie also made me hungry, but in a much nicer room, with doctors to talk to and dinners worth waiting for.

If your goal is a structured diet reset, Chenot is the more coherent proposition. If you want a thorough health review with time to discuss the results, Clinique La Prairie is the better fit. For the wider field, see our guide to longevity retreats in Europe.

Who Clinique La Prairie suits

It suits someone who wants an unhurried, thorough health review in comfort, with a doctor and dietitian to explain the numbers, and who is happy to pay hotel-plus-clinic prices for that.

Think twice if you hope for measurable rejuvenation, or if you would rather put CHF 20,000 into a year of good primary care, a trainer and an ordinary holiday. Whether the bill makes sense against ordinary preventive care is the question we take on in are longevity retreats worth it?

Clinique La Prairie in 2027: Anji, Phuket and the City Hubs

In 2027 Clinique La Prairie is no longer just a lakeside clinic in Montreux. It runs a 29-room resort in Anji, about 180 km from Shanghai, opened in 2024, plus urban Longevity Hubs in Madrid, Dubai, Doha, Bangkok and Taipei, and its 40-villa Phuket resort was scheduled to open in November 2026, with AMAALA in Saudi Arabia slated next. Master Detox travels to these sites; Revitalisation, with its CLP Extract, remains a Montreux exclusive. The Montreux real estate itself now belongs to Beiersdorf, owner of the La Prairie skincare brand, which bought the clinic’s buildings in 2024 while the medical operation stayed separate. And the clinic’s branded supplements reached the US through Bergdorf Goodman in October 2025, sold with the standard FDA disclaimer that they are not intended to treat or prevent disease.

Clinique La Prairie: your questions answered

Is Clinique La Prairie a real medical clinic?

Yes, in the sense that doctors run the programs, order tests and imaging and review results; the clinic says it has more than 50 doctors on site. That does not mean every treatment on the menu is evidence-based. The diagnostics are medicine; parts of the treatment menu are wellness.

What is the difference between Master Detox and Revitalisation?

Master Detox centers on gut health, nutrition and a cleansing protocol, with genetic, microbiome and blood testing. Revitalisation centers on CLP Extract and immunity, with broader medical screening. Premium adds cardiology, CT, MRI and epigenetic testing. They are different products and should not be judged as one.

Does Clinique La Prairie help you lose weight?

You may weigh less at the end, mostly through water, gut contents and lower intake. The clinic itself says it does not guarantee kilos. Lasting weight change depends on what you do at home.

Did you try CLP Extract?

No. I did the Master Detox, which does not include it. Our separate investigation looks at what is and isn’t known about the extract.

Can I book Clinique La Prairie in Phuket instead?

Master Detox is listed for Montreux, Anji and Phuket. Revitalisation and CLP Extract are listed as Montreux only.
