Top 10 Hotel Loyalty Programmes for 2026: Points, Status and What They Are Really Worth

The 10 best hotel loyalty programmes for UK travellers: how points are earned and spent, elite status nights, what points are worth and UK credit cards.

Top 10 Hotel Loyalty Programmes for 2026: Points, Status and What They Are Really Worth

Every big hotel group wants you to join its loyalty scheme, and for good reason: membership is free, and even the entry level usually brings member rates and free Wi-Fi when you book direct. The difference between a good programme and a poor one shows up later, in how quickly the points add up, what a free night costs and how easily you can reach the status that brings breakfast, upgrades and late checkout.

We have ranked ten programmes for UK travellers, weighing the value of the points, how widely you can use them, how realistic elite status is for someone who stays 10 to 30 nights a year, and whether there is any way to earn from a UK bank card. Every detail was checked in October 2026.

How we chose the best hotel loyalty schemes

We started with twelve programmes: the ten here plus Meliá Rewards and Leaders Club from The Leading Hotels of the World. We left out the last two because their footprint is narrower and their published rules are thinner, though Meliá Rewards Gold does come with the American Express Platinum Card in the UK.

Earning rates, tier thresholds and award prices come from each programme’s official pages and terms or, where those were not reachable, from established loyalty publications such as Head for Points, NerdWallet, The MileLion and Milesopedia. Points values are NerdWallet’s, updated on 21 October 2026, and are in US cents because that is how NerdWallet publishes them. Two programmes, Accor and GHA, set a fixed cash value for their currency instead. This is a desk review: the rankings rest on the published rules, not on test stays.

The 10 best hotel loyalty programmes, ranked

1. World of Hyatt

World of Hyatt has the smallest footprint of the big American chains but the most valuable points. NerdWallet puts them at 1.8 US cents each, more than twice Marriott’s figure. You earn 5 base points per US dollar on eligible spending at Hyatt hotels, and points can also be spent at Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties through Hyatt’s partnership.

Status is measured in qualifying nights: Discoverist at 10, Explorist at 30 and Globalist at 60.

The bad news is the 20 May 2026 award chart change. Each of the eight categories now has five price bands instead of three, and the top price for a Category 8 night rose from 45,000 to 75,000 points, an increase of 67%. 136 hotels changed category at the same time, 112 of them moving up.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • The highest points value of any major chain
  • Clear qualifying nights for each tier

Cons

  • Fewer hotels in the UK and Europe than Marriott or Hilton
  • Peak award prices rose sharply in May 2026

2. Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott Bonvoy covers more than 30 brands, from Moxy to Ritz-Carlton, so there is nearly always one where you are going. Most brands earn 10 points per US dollar. There is no fixed award chart; prices move with demand, and NerdWallet values the points at 0.7 US cents, down from 0.8 a year earlier. Points expire after 24 months with no qualifying activity.

Elite status starts with Silver at 10 qualifying nights, then Gold at 25, Platinum at 50, Titanium at 75 and Ambassador at 100 nights plus US$23,000 of qualifying spend. Members who failed to requalify in 2025 dropped at most one tier, with the lower status running until February 2027.

Marriott is the only chain with a UK credit card: the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card costs £95 a year, earns 2 points per £1 (6 at Marriott hotels), gives 15 elite night credits each January, and unlocks a free night voucher after £25,000 of spending in a card year. Currensea also issues Marriott Bonvoy debit cards at £55 and £175 a year.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • Huge choice of hotels in the UK and worldwide
  • A UK credit card that gives instant Silver status

Cons

  • Dynamic pricing makes free nights hard to predict
  • Points value has slipped

3. Hilton Honors

Hilton made elite status much easier from 1 January 2026. Silver still takes 10 nights, 4 stays or US$2,500 of spend, but Gold dropped to 25 nights, 15 stays or US$6,000, and Diamond to 50 nights, 25 stays or US$11,500. A new top tier, Diamond Reserve, needs 80 nights and US$18,000 of spend, and brings a 120% points bonus, guaranteed 4pm checkout and confirmable suite upgrades. Spend replaced base points as a route to status, and rollover nights ended.

Most Hilton hotels earn 10 base points per US dollar (5 at Home2 Suites and Tru), plus a bonus of 20% for Silver, 80% for Gold and 100% for Diamond. Gold brings a daily food and drink credit or continental breakfast, depending on brand and region, and elite members get the fifth night free on reward stays of five nights or more.

NerdWallet values Hilton points at just 0.4 US cents. In the UK, Hilton has no credit card, though Currensea offers Hilton debit cards, and Amex Membership Rewards points transfer to Hilton.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • Gold status is now realistic at 25 nights
  • Breakfast or food credit for Gold members

Cons

  • Low value per point
  • No UK credit card

4. IHG One Rewards

IHG covers everything from Holiday Inn Express to InterContinental and Six Senses, and Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza hotels are everywhere in Britain. Most brands earn 10 points per US dollar, 5 at Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites, with elite bonuses from 20% (Silver) to 100% (Diamond).

The tiers are Silver at 10 qualifying nights, Gold at 20 nights or 40,000 points, Platinum at 40 nights or 60,000 points, and Diamond at 70 nights or 120,000 points. Milestone Rewards start at 20 nights and recur every 10 nights up to 100. NerdWallet values IHG points at 0.6 US cents.

Watch the expiry rule: points lapse after 12 months of account inactivity unless you hold elite status. Both IHG credit cards in the UK have been withdrawn, so the main way to earn from a UK card is the HSBC Premier World Elite Mastercard, which transfers to IHG at 2:1.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • Many hotels in UK towns and cities
  • Milestone Rewards add value from 20 nights

Cons

  • Points expire after 12 months without activity for non-elite members
  • No co-branded UK credit card

5. ALL Accor

ALL Accor is the scheme behind ibis, Novotel, Mercure, Pullman, Sofitel and Fairmont, which gives it more hotels in Europe than any American chain. Its points have a fixed value, so there is no guessing: 2,000 Reward points take €40 off your bill, roughly 2 euro cents a point, and you can redeem from 1,000 points online.

Most brands earn 25 Reward points per €10 spent for Classic members, rising to 50 for Diamond; ibis, ibis Styles and Mama Shelter earn half that. Status uses separate Status points or nights in a calendar year: Silver at 10 nights or 2,000 Status points, Gold at 30 nights or 7,000, Platinum at 60 nights or 14,000, and Diamond at 26,000 Status points with no nights route.

Reward points expire 365 days after your last eligible activity. In the UK, the American Express Platinum Card gives ALL Accor Gold status on enrolment.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • Fixed point value makes rewards easy to judge
  • Strong across the UK and Europe, from budget to luxury

Cons

  • Points expire after a year of inactivity
  • ibis stays earn at half rate

6. GHA DISCOVERY

The Global Hotel Alliance brings together more than 45 independent and regional hotel chains, including Kempinski, NH, Anantara and Corinthia, under one programme. Instead of points, you earn DISCOVERY Dollars (D$) on pre-tax spending: 4% as a Silver member, 5% at Gold, 6% at Platinum and 7% at Titanium. One D$ is worth US$1 towards the bill at check-out.

The status ladder is the gentlest of any programme here. Silver comes on joining, Gold after two stays or US$1,000 of spending, Platinum after 10 nights or US$5,000, and Titanium after 30 nights or US$15,000.

Base D$ expire after 12, 18 or 24 months depending on your tier.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • Gold after only two stays
  • Simple cash-style currency

Cons

  • D$ are spent at participating hotels, not on free nights everywhere
  • Expiry periods are short for lower tiers

7. Radisson Rewards

Outside the Americas, Radisson Rewards covers Radisson, Radisson Blu, Radisson RED, Park Inn and the other Radisson Hotel Group brands across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. In the Americas, Radisson hotels belong to Choice Hotels and use Choice Privileges instead.

There are three tiers, measured over 12 months: Club on joining, Premium after 5 eligible nights or 3 stays, and VIP after 30 nights or 20 stays. Members earn points on every eligible dollar spent at Radisson hotels, with higher earn rates at Premium and VIP. Premium and VIP members can choose Discount Booster instead, trading points for up to 20% off eligible rates.

Points expire after 24 months without earning or using any. Radisson is also adding Louvre Hotels Group properties in phases from October 2026. In the UK, the American Express Platinum Card includes Radisson Rewards Premium.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • Premium status after only five nights
  • Discount Booster for those who prefer cash savings

Cons

  • Separate programme from Radisson in the Americas
  • Club members earn slowly

8. Best Western Rewards

Best Western’s points never expire, and every tier earns 10 points per US dollar (5 at Executive Residency, SureStay Studio and @Home properties), with bonuses from 10% for Gold to 50% for Diamond Select.

The 2026 tiers are among the easiest anywhere: Gold at 5 nights, Platinum at 7, Diamond at 15 and Diamond Select at 25, and status reached in 2026 lasts until the end of December 2027. Free night redemptions count towards status, Platinum and above get early check-in and late checkout when available, and elite members of other hotel programmes can match their status free of charge.

The hotels are mostly mid-range and elite perks modest: water and bonus points on arrival rather than suites. Pay with Points lets you use as few as 5,000 points towards a room at selected hotels.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • Points never expire
  • Status in as few as 5 nights, with free status match

Cons

  • Modest elite benefits
  • Few luxury hotels

Visit Programme

9. Wyndham Rewards

Wyndham Rewards is built for budget and mid-range travel, with brands such as Days Inn, Super 8, Ramada and La Quinta, and is strongest in the United States. You earn 10 points per US dollar or 1,000 points per qualifying stay, whichever is more, which favours cheap motel nights.

Status needs few nights: Gold at 5, Platinum at 15 and Diamond at 40. NerdWallet values the points at 0.7 US cents.

On 15 September 2026 Wyndham replaced its three award prices with four. Entry-level hotels dropped from 7,500 to 5,000 points a night, the 15,000 and 30,000 bands stayed, and a new 45,000-point band was added for the most sought-after properties. Wyndham points can be earned in the UK by transferring HSBC Premier World Elite points at 2:1.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • 1,000-point minimum per stay rewards cheap nights
  • Low thresholds for status

Cons

  • New 45,000-point band for top hotels
  • Thin footprint in the UK

10. Choice Privileges

Choice Hotels, the group behind Comfort Inn, Quality, Cambria and, in the Americas, Radisson, runs Choice Privileges, a scheme for American road trips. From 1 January 2026, Gold dropped to 5 nights, Platinum to 15, Diamond to 35, and a new Titanium tier arrived at 55 nights.

NerdWallet values Choice points at 0.8 US cents, higher than Marriott or Hilton. All members get 1,000 bonus points after their second and third qualifying stays each year, and Titanium members get an annual voucher for 50% off one reward stay at participating higher-end hotels.

Rollover nights for elite members have gone, but from 2027 members who miss their requalification drop only one tier a year.

Cost: free to join.

Pros

  • Gold status after only 5 nights
  • Better value per point than Hilton or Marriott

Cons

  • Few hotels in the UK
  • Rollover nights removed

Choosing a hotel rewards scheme: what matters and what to ignore

Go where you actually stay. Marriott, Hilton, IHG and Accor cover most of the UK; Hyatt and GHA shine on long-haul trips; Wyndham and Choice belong to the American highway.

Join several, chase one. Membership is free, and even basic members usually get member rates and free Wi-Fi when they book direct. Elite status, though, only comes from concentrating your nights. For a traveller doing 25 nights a year, Hilton Gold is now within reach; for someone doing 10, Best Western, Choice, Radisson Premium and GHA Gold all come sooner.

Book direct if you want the points. Most chains award points and elite benefits only on stays booked through their own website, app or approved channels. Online travel agency bookings usually earn nothing. If a booking site is far cheaper, our guide to hotel booking discount codes and rewards explains what those sites give back instead.

Judge points by value, not volume. 10 points per dollar at Hilton is not the same as 5 at Hyatt. Compare the points price of the nights you want with the cash rate.

Use UK cards carefully. The Marriott Bonvoy Amex is the only co-branded hotel credit card in the UK. Amex Membership Rewards points transfer to Hilton and Marriott, and HSBC Premier World Elite points to IHG and Wyndham. Never pay interest to earn points: the charges wipe out the reward.

Hotel Loyalty Schemes in 2027: Easier Status, Dearer Free Nights

Elite status is easier to win this year than it has been for a long time. Hilton’s lower thresholds, which took effect in January 2026, mean Gold takes 25 nights and Diamond 50, with Diamond Reserve above them at 80 nights. Choice Privileges cut its tiers at the same time and now lets members who fall short drop just one level a year, while Best Western status earned in 2026 holds until the end of 2027.

Free nights, on the other hand, cost more at the top end. World of Hyatt has priced awards across five bands since May 2026, and its most expensive Category 8 nights reach 75,000 points. Wyndham has charged up to 45,000 points a night since September 2026. Marriott still sets most award prices by demand.

Hotel Loyalty Programmes: Frequently Asked Questions

Which hotel loyalty programme is best for UK travellers?

For most people it is Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, IHG One Rewards or ALL Accor, because they have the most hotels in Britain and Europe. World of Hyatt offers better value per point if its hotels suit your trips. The right answer depends on where you stay most often.

What are hotel points worth?

NerdWallet’s October 2026 figures put World of Hyatt at 1.8 US cents a point, Choice at 0.8, Marriott and Wyndham at 0.7, IHG at 0.6 and Hilton at 0.4. ALL Accor fixes its value at €40 for 2,000 points, and a GHA DISCOVERY Dollar is worth US$1 off a bill.

Do hotel points expire?

Most do if your account sits idle. Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and Radisson points generally lapse after 24 months without activity, IHG after 12 months for members without status, and ALL Accor after 365 days. Best Western points never expire.

Is there a hotel credit card in the UK?

Yes, one: the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card, at £95 a year, with 15 elite night credits each year and a free night voucher after £25,000 of spending. Hilton and Marriott also have Currensea debit cards, and some general rewards cards transfer points to hotel schemes.

Which hotel status is easiest to get?

GHA DISCOVERY Gold takes two stays or US$1,000 of spending, Best Western Gold and Choice Gold take 5 nights, and Radisson Premium takes 5 nights or 3 stays. Among the big international chains, Silver at Marriott, Hilton and IHG all take 10 nights.

Can I earn hotel points when booking on Booking.com or Expedia?

Usually not. The major chains generally only award points and elite benefits on bookings made directly or through their approved partners. Check the chain’s terms before you book through a third party.
