Flighty Review: The iPhone Flight Tracker With Delay Predictions, a Free First Flight and Pro at £59.99 a Year

Flighty review: what the free iPhone flight tracker does, Pro, Family and Lifetime prices in £, delay predictions, privacy and how it compares with Flightradar24.

Flighty Review: The iPhone Flight Tracker With Delay Predictions, a Free First Flight and Pro at £59.99 a Year

Flighty is the flight tracker that frequent flyers recommend to each other in airport queues. Rather than showing every aircraft in the sky, it focuses on yours: when to leave for the airport, where the inbound plane is, why the flight is late and which belt your bag will arrive on. It won Apple’s Design Award for interaction in 2023, and it looks like it.

The free plan has no ads, but the alerts that make Flighty special sit behind Pro after your first trip, and there is no Android version. Here is our Flighty review: what is free, what Pro, Family and Lifetime cost in pounds, how it treats your data and how it compares with Flightradar24 and FlightAware.

Our verdict

Flighty is the best flight tracker for frequent travellers with an iPhone. Its timeline, inbound aircraft tracking and delay reasons give you a clearer picture of a disrupted day than any airline app we have tried, and the free plan is ad-free. At £59.99 a year, Pro is the most expensive passenger subscription in the category, so occasional flyers should take the free first flight, use Pay-As-You-Go for big trips and stick with the free plan otherwise.

Pros

  • Clear, beautifully designed flight timeline for each trip
  • Shows the inbound aircraft and why your flight is delayed
  • No ads, even on the free plan
  • Pro included free on your first flight, no card needed
  • Excellent Apple Watch app, widgets and Live Activities on Pro

Cons

  • Push alerts and delay predictions need Pro after your first flight
  • Pro at £59.99 a year is expensive for occasional travellers
  • No Android version, and no plans for one
  • Some users report thinner gate and inbound data on European flights
  • Not a radar map of every plane overhead

What Flighty does and who it is for

Add a flight by number, or on Pro by forwarding a booking email or syncing your calendar or TripIt, and Flighty builds a timeline: departure gate, the aircraft due to operate your flight and where it is now (“Where’s My Plane”), taxi times, predicted departure and arrival, and the baggage belt.

Flighty says it uses the same sources pilots get: FAA data, air traffic control advisories and live airport operations feeds, including NOTAMs and Eurocontrol. Its delay predictions look for problems such as late inbound aircraft, storms, wind and traffic restrictions.

It earns its place in moments like these:

  • You are booked on the 07:10 from Heathrow to New York. The night before, Flighty warns that the inbound aircraft is running three hours late, so you check the airline app for a rebooking before the queue forms.
  • Your partner is flying home from Barcelona. You follow the flight through Flighty Friends and see the arrival forecast change as it crosses France.

It suits frequent flyers, business travellers and stats-loving aviation fans, not Android users or anyone wanting to identify a plane over the garden.

Is Flighty free? Free vs Pro features

Yes, and the free plan is better than most: unlimited flight tracking, live data, weather, aircraft details, a personal flight log, Passport stats, the Apple Watch app, iCloud sync, Flighty Friends and limited airport information, with past flights importable from the last 365 days. There are no ads.

The catch: once your free first flight ends, push notifications, delay predictions, Live Activities and syncing pause unless you pay. You can still open the app and check the status, but it will not tap you on the shoulder.

Pro adds early alerts, delay reasons and predictions, gate predictions, Live Activities, Where’s My Plane, the Connection Assistant, calendar, email and TripIt import, unlimited past-flight import, tail numbers and decoded NOTAMs.

Flighty price: Pro, Family and Lifetime

The UK App Store lists these in-app purchases.

PlanUK priceUS price
Free£0$0
Pay-As-You-Go£4.99$4.99 a week
Pro Annual£59.99 a year$59.99 a year
Family Annual (up to 6)£119 a yearNot listed on US pricing page
Lifetime£299 one-off$299 one-off
Add Family to Lifetime£199Not listed

US prices come from Flighty’s own pricing page. The UK App Store still lists a Family Lifetime plan at £449, but Flighty’s help centre says it is no longer offered for new purchases.

The cheapest way to pay: use the free first flight before paying anything. If you fly a few times a year, buy Pay-As-You-Go for a specific trip; if you fly monthly, Pro Annual works out at £5 a month. Lifetime at £299 only pays off after five years.

Family sharing works through Apple Family Sharing, with everyone in the same Apple ID region.

Flighty features that matter

Where’s My Plane. Tracks the aircraft operating your flight up to 25 hours ahead, the best early warning of a delay.

Live Activities. Gate, boarding time and countdown on the lock screen, on Pro.

Flighty Friends. Share flights with family so they can follow you without you sending updates.

Platforms. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Vision Pro. Flighty says an Android version would mean a ground-up rebuild and it has no immediate plans; Android users can join a waitlist.

Is Flighty safe? Privacy

Flighty LLC is a small private company; Ryan Jones, a former Apple employee, came up with the idea during a long flight delay. No account is required.

Its UK App Store privacy label is one of the cleanest in the category. It lists no data used to track you; contact info (email, name and phone number) and a user ID are linked to you for app functionality, and usage data for analytics. Compare that with Flightradar24 and FlightAware, which both list data used to track you.

What users say about Flighty

Flighty rates 4.8 out of 5 from about 19,000 ratings on the UK App Store.

Fans are loyal. In December 2024 a reviewer called oorkris, who moved over from App in the Air, said Flighty flagged a cancellation before the airline did, and bought Lifetime. Critics focus on cost and European data: Hedge666 found no gate or inbound information on European flights in 2023, and MB.91, a Pro subscriber, said in December 2024 that delays and a cancellation on an Istanbul to London flight were picked up hours late.

How to get started with Flighty

  1. Download Flighty from the App Store on iPhone, iPad, Mac or Vision Pro.
  2. Add your next flight by number; it gets Pro automatically.
  3. Allow notifications so delay and gate alerts reach you.
  4. After the trip, choose between the free plan, Pay-As-You-Go or Pro.

To cancel: on iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Flighty and cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal; refunds are handled by Apple. Your flight history stays in the app on the free plan.
