Grant Baker became the most decorated Big Wave surfer in history after becoming the first athlete to ever clinch his third World Surf League Big Wave Championship Tour title this weekend.
Victory at the 2018 Nazare Challenge in Portugal helped steer “Twiggy” to a third Big Wave crown and thus move ahead of American Greg Long, with whom he was previously level on two titles.
South Africa-born Baker just about edged 2017 winner BIlly Kemper to take another world championship, while Keala Kennelly became only the second woman to be crowned Big Wave Championship Tour winner. Paige Alms won the inaugural competition in 2016 and retained her trophy the following year, but she could only take fourth place in this year’s contest.
