Saily is the travel eSIM from Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, and it brings that pedigree with it: ad blocking, a virtual location switcher and a US phone number bolted on to fairly ordinary data plans. Here is what it costs, what the code actually saves, and how it stacks up against Airalo and Holafly.

Verdict
Saily is a well-built, competitively priced eSIM that earns its keep through the extras rather than the data. The app is clean, the fixed-data plans are cheap in Japan and the USA, and the one-eSIM-for-every-trip approach saves fiddling with QR codes. The unlimited plans are not quite unlimited, though, and Airalo still undercuts it on the UK.
Pros
- One eSIM installed once and reused across destinations
- Security tools included: ad blocking, malicious site blocking, 115+ virtual locations
- Hotspot sharing allowed on every plan
- Optional US number with calls and texts, rare among data-only rivals
- 3% of every plan back in Saily credits, plus US$5 referral credit
Cons
- “Unlimited” plans slow to 1Mbps after 5GB a day
- Refunds are unlikely once a plan is activated
- The phone number is US only and needs identity verification
- No free trial for newcomers
- UK unlimited plans cost more than Airalo’s
Saily discount codes and referral credit: what works and how to apply it
Our Promo Code SAILY5 takes 5% off when you sign up. It is a modest saving rather than a headline grabber, but it adds up on the bigger plans, and it is a code we can stand behind, unlike the codes circulating on coupon sites, which come and go.
Here is the arithmetic on Saily’s most popular UK plan, 10GB for 30 days:
| US$ | £ | € | |
|---|---|---|---|
| List price | US$18.99 | £14.25 | €16.91 |
| SAILY5 saving (5%) | US$0.95 | £0.71 | €0.85 |
| You pay | US$18.04 | £13.54 | €16.07 |
On a 30-day UK unlimited plan the same code brings US$71.99 (£54.02 / €64.11) down to US$68.39 (£51.32 / €60.91), which is where 5% starts to feel like a round of drinks.
Referral credit. Saily’s own refer-a-friend scheme gives a new customer US$5 (£3.75 / €4.45) off a first standard data plan, or US$10 (£7.50 / €8.91) off a first Ultra plan, and the person who referred them receives a matching amount in Saily credits. The referral discount cannot be used on plans below US$5.60 and cannot be combined with other coupons, so on anything under about US$100 the US$5 referral beats 5%. Use one or the other.
Credits. Every data plan returns 3% of its price as Saily credits, which can pay for up to 100% of a later order. Credits last a year and cannot be cashed out.
Students. Saily runs a student discount through Student Beans, currently listed on the UK page as 15% off any plan for first-time users.
How to apply SAILY5: download the Saily app or go to saily.com, choose your destination and plan, create an account, and enter SAILY5 in the promo code field before paying.
Is there a Saily free plan or free trial?
No. Saily does not offer a free plan or a free test eSIM, unlike Nomad, which gives new users a free 1GB, 3-day trial. Saily has run short-lived free-data promotions before, but none is live and codes on coupon sites claiming free data should be treated with suspicion.
The nearest thing to a free trial is the cheapest plan: 1GB for 7 days costs US$3.99 (£2.99 / €3.55) in the USA and Japan, enough to check the eSIM installs, find your hotel and hail a taxi before committing to something bigger. If the plan is never activated, Saily will refund it within 30 days of purchase.
Saily prices: UK, Europe, USA and Japan compared
Saily prices in US dollars. These are the list prices on its official country pages, before any promo code.
| Plan | UK | Europe (35 countries) | USA | Japan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1GB, 7 days | US$4.49 (£3.37 / €4.00) | US$4.99 (£3.74 / €4.44) | US$3.99 (£2.99 / €3.55) | US$3.99 (£2.99 / €3.55) |
| 10GB, 30 days | US$18.99 (£14.25 / €16.91) | US$35.99 (£27.01 / €32.05) | US$22.99 (£17.25 / €20.47) | US$17.99 (£13.50 / €16.02) |
| Unlimited, 15 days | US$48.99 (£36.76 / €43.63) | US$49.99 (£37.51 / €44.52) | US$45.99 (£34.51 / €40.96) | US$48.99 (£36.76 / €43.63) |
The UK’s full ladder runs 1GB/7 days for US$4.49 (£3.37 / €4.00), 3GB/30 days for US$8.99 (£6.75 / €8.01), 5GB/30 days for US$12.99 (£9.75 / €11.57), 10GB/30 days for US$18.99 (£14.25 / €16.91) and 20GB/30 days for US$30.99 (£23.25 / €27.60).
UK unlimited plans come in 7, 10, 15 and 30-day versions, with the 15-day plan at US$48.99 (£36.76 / €43.63) and the 30-day plan at US$71.99 (£54.02 / €64.11). Every unlimited country and regional plan gives you 5GB of full-speed data in each 24-hour period, then drops to 1Mbps for the rest of that day. That is fine for maps, messaging and music, and painful for uploading holiday video.
The Europe regional plan is the odd one out. Ten gigabytes for a month of hopping from Lisbon to Seville costs US$35.99 on the Europe plan, almost double the UK’s single-country 10GB, so if you are only visiting one country, check that country’s own plan first.
Saily coverage: how many countries and which regions
Saily sells data in more than 200 destinations. Unlimited plans are available as single-country plans in 62 countries, plus the Europe and Asia and Oceania regional bundles.
The regional and global options are:
- Europe: 35 countries, including the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Malta, the Netherlands, the Nordics, Switzerland, Iceland, Turkey and Gibraltar
- Asia and Oceania: regional plan, including unlimited
- Africa and Latin America: regional plans
- Global: 121 destinations, from US$8.99 (£6.75 / €8.01) for 1GB over 7 days up to 50GB valid for a year
Speeds are 3G, 4G/LTE or 5G depending on the local partner network. In Japan, Saily names KDDI and SoftBank as partners; for the USA it does not name its carriers.
What users say about Saily
On Trustpilot, Saily scores 4.7 out of 5 (“Excellent”) from 31,860 reviews. Five-star ratings make up 83% of the total and one-star reviews 3%. On Apple’s App Store the app also rates 4.7.
The praise is consistent: easy installation, a tidy app and fair prices. Noorulain B., from Pakistan, wrote simply: “The setup was simple, the app was easy to use.”
The complaints cluster around connections that drop mid-trip and support not being able to fix them quickly. Augustas, reviewing from Turkey, said: “Saily was great while it worked, but… yesterday evening, our internet connection suddenly stopped working.” That pattern is not unique to Saily, since every eSIM reseller depends on local partner networks, but it is the main thing to weigh against the glowing average.
How to sign up and use Saily
- Check your phone. It must be unlocked and eSIM-compatible. The iPhone app needs iOS 17 or later; there is also an Android app.
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, or start at saily.com.
- Pick a destination and plan, then create an account and enter Promo Code SAILY5 (or a friend’s referral code) at checkout.
- Pay by card or another method offered at checkout for your region.
- Install the eSIM in the app. There is no QR code to scan. Do this at home on Wi-Fi, because installation needs a connection.
- Turn on the eSIM and data roaming when you land. The plan activates automatically on arrival in the destination.
When validity starts. The clock starts when the plan activates in the destination, not when you buy it. Plans must be activated within 180 days of purchase; if you have not used one by then, it activates automatically on that date.
Hotspot. Saily allows hotspot sharing on all plans with no stated cap, so a family of four can run phones and a tablet off one parent’s unlimited plan in Tokyo. They will share the same 5GB a day of full speed, mind, which disappears quickly if the teenagers find YouTube.
Phone number. Saily’s eSIM is data-only by default. For calls and texts you can add a US (+1) number for US$1.99 (£1.49 / €1.77) a month plus a call and text plan from US$0.99 (£0.74 / €0.88). It requires identity verification in the app, works for calls in more than 130 countries and does not support MMS. Friends calling a US number from home may pay international rates, so for most British travellers WhatsApp remains the cheaper way to ring home.
Refunds. Unused, unactivated plans can be refunded within 30 days of purchase. Once a plan is activated, Saily treats it as used and refunds only in limited cases, such as a Saily-side fault or more than 99% of the data untouched.
Saily vs Airalo vs Holafly: UK unlimited compared
Same destination, same validity: unlimited data in the UK.
| UK unlimited | Saily | Airalo | Holafly |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 days, list price | US$28.99 (£21.75 / €25.82) | US$27.00 (£20.26 / €24.05) | US$27.50 (£20.64 / €24.49) |
| 7 days, with our code | US$27.54 (£20.67 / €24.53) with SAILY5 | US$22.95 (£17.22 / €20.44) with NEWTOAIRALO15 | US$26.13 (£19.61 / €23.27) with LOCALS |
| 30 days, list price | US$71.99 (£54.02 / €64.11) | US$69.00 (£51.78 / €61.45) | US$76.50 (£57.41 / €68.13) |
| 30 days, with our code | US$68.39 (£51.32 / €60.91) with SAILY5 | US$58.65 (£44.01 / €52.23) with NEWTOAIRALO15 | US$72.68 (£54.54 / €64.73) with LOCALS |
| Code discount | 5% on sign-up | 15% off first eSIM, new customers, max US$100 off | 5% off any plan |
On price alone, Airalo wins the UK. Its unlimited plans are slightly cheaper before discounts, and NEWTOAIRALO15 takes 15% off a first eSIM for new customers (one use, valid to 31 December 2026), which makes a 30-day UK plan nearly US$10 cheaper than Saily’s. Returning Airalo customers get 10% off eSIMs of US$10 or more with AIRALOESIM10.
Holafly is the priciest on list price but is built around unlimited data, and LOCALS works on any plan, country, regional or global, not only the first one. Saily is the pick if you value the extras: one eSIM reused trip after trip, ad and malicious-site blocking, a US number for two-factor texts, and credits on every purchase. Whichever you choose, read the unlimited fair-use terms before buying, because “unlimited” means different things to each of them.
Saily FAQs
Is Saily legit?
Yes. Saily is run by Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, and the iPhone app is published by Nordvpn S.A. It has a 4.7 Trustpilot score from more than 31,000 reviews and offers 24/7 live chat support.
Is there a Saily promo code that works?
Promo Code SAILY5 gives 5% off when you sign up. A friend’s referral code gives US$5 off a first plan of US$5.60 or more instead, and students can use Saily’s Student Beans discount. Codes cannot be combined.
Does Saily have a free trial?
No. There is no free plan or test eSIM. The cheapest plans start at US$3.99 (£2.99 / €3.55) for 1GB over 7 days, and unactivated plans can be refunded within 30 days.
Is Saily unlimited data really unlimited?
Not at full speed. Country and regional unlimited plans give 5GB of high-speed data every 24 hours, then slow to 1Mbps until the next day. The Saily Ultra subscription instead gives 30GB of high-speed data a month before dropping to 1Mbps.
Does Saily give you a phone number?
Only if you add one. Saily sells a US (+1) number for US$1.99 a month, with call and text plans from US$0.99, and it requires identity verification. Standard plans are data-only.
Can I use Saily as a hotspot?
Yes. Saily allows hotspot sharing on all plans with no stated limit, though on unlimited plans everyone shares the same 5GB daily full-speed allowance.
When does a Saily plan start?
When it activates in your destination, not when you buy it. You must turn on the eSIM and data roaming, and any plan left unused for 180 days activates automatically.
Which is better, Saily or Airalo?
For the cheapest UK data, Airalo, especially with NEWTOAIRALO15 on a first order. For security features, a reusable eSIM and an optional US number, Saily. In Japan, Saily’s fixed-data plans are within a few cents of Airalo’s.
