NordVPN Promo Code LOCALS: Up to 75% Off, 150 Countries and Six No-Logs Assessments

NordVPN is the VPN most people have heard of, largely because it never stops advertising. The more useful news is that the product behind the adverts is quick, independently audited and easy to live with, as long as you read the renewal price before you click buy.

Verdict

NordVPN is the safe, sensible choice in a crowded market: fast, widely audited and available in more countries than most people will ever visit. It is not the cheapest of the big three, and the jump at renewal is steep, but the introductory 2-year price is fair for what you get.

Pros

  • Six independent no-logs assessments, the latest by Deloitte
  • Servers covering 150 countries, including Lisbon and Valletta
  • RAM-only servers and post-quantum encryption
  • Ten devices on every plan
  • Wide choice of payment methods, including PayPal, crypto and cash cards

Cons

  • Renewal costs roughly three times the introductory monthly rate
  • Free trial is limited to certain countries and plans, and needs a card or PayPal
  • Ad blocker and anti-malware are desktop-only and need a pricier tier
  • Some Trustpilot reviewers report slow support and surprise renewals
  • Streaming services can still block VPN connections

NordVPN promo codes, coupons and discounts: what actually saves you money

NordVPN’s pricing is structured so that the discount is baked into the long plans rather than hidden behind a code. On the official pricing page, the 2-year plans currently come with three extra months, so you pay for 27 months up front. Our Promo Code LOCALS goes in at checkout; the brand’s best public offer should show regardless, so check the basket total before paying.

Here is the worked example for the 2-year Basic plan. Before discount, NordVPN lists 27 months at US$312.93 (£234.82 / €278.70). After discount you pay US$94.23 (£70.71 / €83.92) billed for the first 27 months, which works out at US$3.49 a month (£2.62 / €3.11). When the term ends, the plan renews at US$139.08 a year (£104.37 / €123.86), or about US$11.59 a month (£8.70 / €10.32).

NordVPN also runs a separate coupon page with its own offers. At the time of checking it listed a 2-year plan at US$3.89 a month (£2.92 / €3.46), which is US$93.36 (£70.06 / €83.15) billed for the first two years, and a 3-month plan at US$7.99 a month (£6.00 / €7.12). Those figures match the Locals Insider offer, but the main pricing page, with its extra three months, is the better deal per month.

Codes circulating on coupon sites tend to promise more than they deliver. NordVPN states that its own coupon codes are case sensitive and can only be claimed through its official coupon page, so a code copied from elsewhere is unlikely to beat the price already on screen.

Free trial, free plan and the 30-day money-back guarantee

There is no free version of NordVPN. What it offers instead is a 7-day free trial for first-time customers on 1-year and 2-year Prime plans, available in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Italy and Poland. You need to add a card or PayPal (PayPal is the route if you would rather not hand over card details), and the trial is not available through Apple’s App Store. Android users can start a separate 3-day trial through Google Play.

Everyone else gets the 30-day money-back guarantee, which applies to all plans but only to your first purchase. Renewals are not refundable unless local law says otherwise. If you paid through the App Store or Amazon, the refund has to come from Apple or Amazon, not NordVPN.

How to claim a refund, step by step:

  1. Open live chat on NordVPN’s help centre and ask for a refund.
  2. Click the verification link support sends you to confirm your identity.
  3. In your Nord Account billing history, click “Refund” next to the eligible payment.
  4. Pick a cancellation reason and click “Submit and Continue”.
  5. Check the summary and confirm with “Refund”. A confirmation email follows.

The status moves to “Refund Processing” for up to about four hours, then to “Refunded”. NordVPN says the money can take up to 10 business days to reach your account, depending on your bank.

NordVPN prices and plans: Basic, Complete and Prime compared

NordVPN has trimmed its line-up to three tiers. Basic is the VPN alone, with scam and phishing protection and Dark Web Monitor. Complete adds an ad and tracker blocker, anti-malware (both desktop-only), a password manager and 1TB of encrypted cloud storage. Prime adds identity-theft and cyber-extortion insurance and credit monitoring, most of which is aimed at US customers.

The 2-year Complete plan carries the biggest headline saving, at 75%. For most readers, though, Basic is enough: the VPN, the kill switch and the scam protection are identical across every tier. A dedicated IP and Incogni data removal can be added at checkout on any plan.

Payment is flexible. NordVPN takes major cards, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay, crypto including Bitcoin and Ethereum, local bank transfers where available, and prepaid cards bought with cash at selected retailers.

Servers, countries and streaming: where NordVPN can take you

NordVPN lists 7,213 servers covering 150 countries and 225 locations. The UK has four cities (London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow), the US has 55, and there are single locations in Lisbon and Valletta. Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan each have more than one city.

Beyond standard servers there are specialist options: obfuscated servers for countries where VPNs are restricted, Double VPN, which routes traffic through two servers, Onion Over VPN for the Tor network, and P2P servers for file sharing.

On streaming, NordVPN is careful with its words, and so are we. Its help centre advises connecting to any UK server for BBC iPlayer, and it admits that services such as Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu “may limit VPN connections”. In other words, it often works, and when it does not, the brand’s advice is to switch servers, clear your cache and run a DNS leak test. Its SmartPlay feature is designed to help you reach services you already pay for while travelling.

As for speed, NordVPN claims an average of 817Mbps, citing tests by Artifact Security (June 2026) and West Coast Labs (October 2025). Your hotel broadband will decide most of that for you.

Privacy and security: logs, audits and Panama

NordVPN operates under the jurisdiction of Panama. Its parent company, Nord Security, is headquartered in the Netherlands.

The no-logs policy has been independently assessed six times. The latest, by Deloitte Lithuania under the ISAE 3000 standard, ran from 10 November to 12 December 2025 and covered standard, Double VPN, obfuscated and Onion Over VPN servers. Deloitte concluded the systems were designed in line with the no-logs statement. The full report is available only to customers logged into their Nord Account.

Technically, the servers run on RAM only, so data is wiped when a machine is switched off. Connections use NordLynx (built on WireGuard), OpenVPN or NordWhisper, a protocol designed to get through networks that block other VPN traffic, and NordVPN now uses post-quantum encryption. There is a bug bounty programme through HackerOne and quarterly transparency reports.

The one blemish on the record dates from 2018, when a single rented server in a Finnish data centre was accessed through an insecure management account set up by the data centre. NordVPN disclosed it in October 2019, said no user activity logs were stored on the server and no customer data was affected, ended its relationship with the provider and began encrypting the disks of every new server.

What users say about NordVPN

On Trustpilot, NordVPN scores 4.2 out of 5 from 51,199 reviews, with 72% of reviewers giving five stars and 12% giving one. Praise centres on how easy the apps are to set up and how fast connections feel. Complaints cluster around automatic renewals at higher prices, chatbot-led support and connection problems on some devices.

“Great product and so easy to use,” wrote Ian C. from the UK. Dangelo T. from the US was less happy: “My service stopped working once I renewed my subscription.”

Both are fair summaries of the brand. The product is liked; the billing is where goodwill tends to go missing.

How to sign up and use NordVPN

  1. Go to NordVPN’s pricing page and choose a plan and term.
  2. Add the Promo Code LOCALS at checkout and check the total, the term length and the renewal price.
  3. Pay by card, PayPal, crypto or another listed method, and create your Nord Account.
  4. Download the app for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, Fire TV or Android TV, and sign in.
  5. Pick a country or tap Quick Connect, and set the app to connect automatically on unfamiliar Wi-Fi.

One account covers 10 devices at once, so a laptop, two phones, a tablet and a TV stick will barely dent the allowance.

In practice, the use cases are mundane. Say you are on a work trip to Lisbon on a Champions League night and the hotel television offers Portuguese channels only. Connect your laptop to a UK server, sign in to the streaming service you already subscribe to at home, and see whether the broadcaster lets you through. Some will, some block VPN traffic, and that is their call rather than NordVPN’s.

The less glamorous job is the one that matters most. Checking your bank account on airport Wi-Fi at Gatwick, with the kill switch on, means your traffic is encrypted before it leaves the laptop, and nobody else on the network can see what you are doing.

NordVPN vs ExpressVPN vs Surfshark: which 2-year plan wins?

Surfshark is the cheapest of the three on day one, and unlimited devices make it the obvious pick for a large household with a drawer full of tablets. Locals Insider readers can also use Surfshark Promo Codes SHARKGIFT and SHARKSECURE. ExpressVPN costs less than NordVPN both now and at renewal on its Basic plan, and its Promo Code LOCALS applies there too.

NordVPN earns its slightly higher price with the widest country coverage of the three, a longer audit record and an app that most people find easy from the first launch. If you travel a lot and want one subscription that rarely needs thinking about, it is the one we would choose. If price is the only question, Surfshark wins.
