Verdict

CyberGhost is a straightforward, good-value VPN with a big server list, dedicated streaming servers and a refund window longer than most rivals’. The renewal price is the real surprise: at US$56.94 a year it stays cheap after the honeymoon, which is rarer than it should be. The seven-device cap and the absence of a free plan are the main reasons to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Low first-term price, and a renewal price that doesn’t jump to the full monthly rate
  • 45-day money-back guarantee, 15 days longer than Surfshark and PIA
  • Streaming-optimised servers, with UK servers named for iPlayer and Channel 4
  • No-logs policy audited twice by Deloitte; servers reported to be RAM-only
  • 24-hour desktop trial that needs no card

Cons

  • No free plan, and the mobile trials need payment details
  • Seven devices, where both main rivals offer unlimited connections
  • Several smaller countries (Portugal, Malta, Brazil, Turkey) are virtual locations
  • Monthly plan is expensive at US$12.99, with only a 14-day refund window
  • Owned by Kape Technologies, whose past in ad-tech still bothers some privacy purists

CyberGhost coupon codes and discounts: what works and how to apply it

There is no secret code that beats the price on CyberGhost’s own pricing page. The headline 83% discount is applied as soon as you pick the 2 Years + 2 Months plan, and CyberGhost measures it against its standard monthly price of US$12.99. Codes circulating on coupon sites tend to point at this same offer, and some coupon pages admit that the discount is applied automatically with no code needed.

Here is the worked example. Paying month by month for 26 months would cost US$337.74 (£253.44 / €300.79). The 2-year plan costs US$56.94 (£42.73 / €50.71) for the same 26 months, a saving of US$280.80 (£210.71 / €250.08). After that, it renews at US$56.94 a year, so keeping CyberGhost for a third year brings your total to US$113.88 (£85.46 / €101.42) across 38 months.

To apply it, open CyberGhost’s pricing page, choose the 2-year option, check that the order summary shows the 26-month total, and enter the DailyStoke Promo Code in the coupon field if prompted. Don’t tick the add-ons unless you want them: the dedicated IP and Security Suite both push up the bill. There is also a refer-a-friend scheme that gives 30 free days.

Free plan, free trial and the money-back guarantee

CyberGhost dropped its free version years ago, so there is no free plan. What it does offer is a trial: 24 hours on Windows and macOS with no card required, 3 days on Android and 7 days on iOS. The mobile trials need a payment method and will start charging unless you cancel before they end. CyberGhost says the trial includes all premium features on up to seven devices.

The 45-day money-back guarantee is the more useful safety net. It covers the 2-year and 6-month plans; the 1-month plan gets 14 days. CyberGhost says usage (connections, data, devices) does not affect eligibility. To claim a refund:

  1. Check where you paid. Subscriptions bought through the App Store, Google Play or Amazon aren’t covered by CyberGhost’s guarantee and must be refunded through those stores.
  2. Open live chat on CyberGhost’s website, or email support, before your window closes.
  3. Ask for a refund under the money-back guarantee and give the email address on your account.
  4. Keep the confirmation. You don’t need to cancel the recurring payment yourself first, but check your account afterwards to make sure auto-renewal is off.

Support handles requests in English, German, French and Romanian. CyberGhost doesn’t publish a processing time for refunds, and several Trustpilot complaints concern charges after cancellation, so screenshot everything.

CyberGhost prices and plans: tiers, terms and renewal costs

CyberGhost keeps it simple: one VPN product, three terms. Prices on the official site are in US dollars, and taxes may be added at checkout depending on your country.

The optional extras are sold separately. A dedicated IP costs from US$5 a month (£3.75 / €4.45) on a monthly term, with bigger savings on longer terms. The Security Suite for Windows starts at US$4.50 a month (£3.38 / €4.01). Multi-year plans include CyberGhost’s ID Guard and Privacy Guard at no extra cost, while the password manager is listed as included on one part of the checkout and charged on another, so check the basket before you pay.

On the US checkout you can pay by credit or debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Amazon Pay. Cryptocurrency was not offered on the checkout we checked.

Servers, countries and streaming: where CyberGhost reaches

CyberGhost lists more than 9,600 servers across 100 countries and about 125 locations. The big European hubs are well stocked: Germany has 1,349 servers, France 776, the UK 523 across three cities, the Netherlands 317, Spain 205, Italy 178, Ireland 113 and Denmark 96. Canada has 308.

Some smaller countries are virtual locations, meaning the IP address belongs to that country but the hardware sits elsewhere. That applies to Portugal (Lisbon), Malta (Valletta), Brazil, Turkey and Mexico, among others. For streaming it rarely matters; for anyone who cares where their traffic physically travels, it does. CyberGhost also runs “NoSpy” servers in Bucharest, which it owns and operates itself.

On streaming, CyberGhost’s own UK page names Netflix UK, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer and Channel 4 among the services its UK streaming servers are built for. BleepingComputer’s 2025 review reached Netflix in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Japan, plus BBC iPlayer, Hulu and Prime Video. CyberGhost doesn’t name any sports services for its UK servers, so treat a live match as something to test during the refund window rather than a promise.

Speeds are respectable. In BleepingComputer’s tests on a fast connection using WireGuard, CyberGhost averaged 289 Mbps across its test locations, with 224 Mbps to London and 392 Mbps to New York. On an ordinary 35 Mbps home line, the London connection lost about 23% of its speed. Protocols are WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2, with WireGuard usually chosen automatically.

Privacy and security: is CyberGhost safe to use?

CyberGhost SRL is based in Bucharest, and Romania has no law requiring VPNs to keep user logs. Its policy says it doesn’t track or store browsing activity. Deloitte audited that claim in 2022 under the ISAE 3000 standard, and a second Deloitte audit, reported in May 2024, found nothing to suggest the systems didn’t match CyberGhost’s description as of 31 January 2024. The full report is available to subscribers rather than published openly.

According to TechRadar’s coverage of the second audit, CyberGhost’s servers run on RAM only, so data disappears when a server loses power. The apps include a kill switch, split tunnelling and a content blocker for ads, trackers and malicious sites (not on iOS). CyberGhost has also published a transparency report since 2011.

The history is worth knowing. CyberGhost was bought in 2017 by Crossrider, now Kape Technologies, a company that previously worked in ad-tech and whose software drew criticism. No evidence has emerged of Kape misusing CyberGhost subscriber data. In 2020 a breach at Typeform, a third-party survey tool, exposed details of around 120 CyberGhost users.

What users say: CyberGhost reviews on Trustpilot

On Trustpilot, CyberGhost scores 4.0 out of 5 from 24,082 reviews, with 78% of reviewers giving five stars and 7% giving one. The company has replied to just under half of its negative reviews. On the US App Store the iOS app holds 4.2 out of 5 from about 40,000 ratings.

The praise is consistent: easy installation, a friendly app and good value. “Great product, excellent value for money,” wrote Fabio from Italy in August 2026. The complaints cluster around billing, auto-renewal and refunds, along with some reports of dropped connections and a few grumbles that seven devices isn’t enough for a busy household. “Charged when I shouldn’t have been,” wrote Evan from Australia in September 2026.

How to sign up for CyberGhost and use it

  1. Go to CyberGhost’s pricing page and pick a plan. The 2-year option gives the 83% discount.
  2. Create an account with your email address and pay by card, PayPal or a wallet such as Apple Pay.
  3. Download the app for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS or Linux, or set it up on a smart TV or router.
  4. Log in, then either tap the main connect button or open the server list and choose a country or a streaming-optimised server.
  5. Switch on the kill switch and content blocker in settings, and turn off auto-renewal in your account if you’d rather decide later.

Picture a Champions League night in a Lisbon hotel. You’re paying for your usual UK service, but the hotel Wi-Fi puts you in Portugal. Connect to one of CyberGhost’s UK servers, open the app you already pay for and the service sees a UK connection. Whether a particular broadcaster lets it through on the night is down to that broadcaster, so try it before kick-off rather than at it.

The quieter use is the more valuable one. On airport Wi-Fi, checking your bank balance before boarding, CyberGhost encrypts the traffic between your phone and its server, so nobody else on that network can read it. Your bank’s own encryption already does much of the work; the VPN adds a second layer on a network you have no reason to trust.

Surfshark makes most sense for big households: unlimited devices and a mobile free trial outweigh the slightly higher price. Its Promo Code SHARKGIFT goes with the 2-year plan, which Surfshark lists from US$2.49 a month (£1.87 / €2.22). Private Internet Access suits people who know they will stay for years: its 39-month plan is the cheapest per month here, and it covers the most countries.

CyberGhost is the pick for anyone who wants the longest refund window, dedicated streaming servers and a renewal price that won’t sting. If you only have a laptop, a phone and a TV, the seven-device limit is unlikely to trouble you.

CyberGhost FAQs

Is there a working CyberGhost promo code?
The best verified deal is the 83% discount on the 2 Years + 2 Months plan, which is applied on CyberGhost’s pricing page. That brings the price to US$2.19 a month (£1.64 / €1.95). Codes on coupon sites generally lead to the same offer.

Does CyberGhost have a free trial?
Yes. There is a 24-hour trial on Windows and macOS with no card needed, a 3-day trial on Android and a 7-day trial on iOS. The mobile trials require a payment method and convert to a paid plan unless you cancel in time.

How do I get a refund from CyberGhost?
Contact support by live chat or email within 45 days (14 days on the monthly plan) and ask for a refund under the money-back guarantee. If you subscribed through Apple, Google or Amazon, request the refund from that store instead.

Is CyberGhost safe?
CyberGhost runs RAM-only servers, has a no-logs policy audited twice by Deloitte, and is based in Romania, which has no mandatory data retention for VPNs. Its owner, Kape Technologies, has a history that some privacy advocates still question, but no misuse of user data has come to light.

Does CyberGhost work with BBC iPlayer and Netflix?
CyberGhost lists BBC iPlayer, Netflix UK, Amazon Prime Video and Channel 4 among the services its UK streaming servers are designed for. Streaming platforms block VPN addresses from time to time, so results can change.

How much does CyberGhost cost after the first term?
The 2-year plan renews at US$56.94 (£42.73 / €50.71) a year after the first 26 months. The 6-month plan renews at US$41.94 and the monthly plan at US$12.99.

How many devices can I use with CyberGhost?
Seven at the same time on a single subscription. Surfshark and Private Internet Access both allow unlimited connections.

Is CyberGhost better than Surfshark?
CyberGhost has the longer refund window and a lower 2-year price; Surfshark has unlimited devices and a 7-day mobile free trial. For a small household that streams a lot, CyberGhost is the better value.

A note on the law: VPNs are legal in the UK. Using one to get around a streaming service’s terms can, however, lead to your account being restricted.
