Holafly sells one thing above all else: unlimited data for travellers who never want to see a “you’ve used 80%” warning. We looked at what that promise really includes, what it costs in three currencies, and whether Airalo or Saily does the job for less.

Verdict

Holafly is the pick for people who would rather pay a little more than think about data at all. A week in Britain or across Europe costs much the same as the cheapest unlimited rivals, and the LOCALS code nudges it under Airalo’s list price. The catches are a 1GB daily hotspot cap, no phone number and longer plans that cost more than the competition.

Pros

  • Unlimited data on almost every plan, with no daily gigabyte figure to watch on Holafly’s side
  • The Europe eSIM (33 countries, UK included) costs exactly the same as the UK-only plan
  • Validity starts when the eSIM connects at your destination, not when you buy it
  • Free 1GB of backup data every month while the eSIM stays installed
  • 24/7 support by chat and WhatsApp, and a well-rated app (4.8 on the US App Store)

Cons

  • Hotspot is capped at 1GB a day, which hurts if you are the family’s only data source
  • No phone number, calls or SMS on standard eSIMs
  • 30-day plans are dearer than Airalo and Saily
  • No free trial
  • Operators can slow your speed for up to a day under their fair-use rules

Holafly discount codes and referral credit: what works and how to apply it

The code to use is LOCALS, which takes 5% off any Holafly eSIM, whatever the destination or length. It works for regional and global eSIMs as well as single-country ones, and on the Holafly Plans subscriptions it gives 10% off for the first 12 months.

To apply it, pick your destination and number of days, go to checkout and type LOCALS into the “Discount code” field, then tap the arrow. The new total shows before you pay. Holafly takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal, among others.

Worked example: seven days in the UK

US$£€
7-day UK unlimited, list priceUS$27.50£20.64€24.49
Promo Code LOCALS (5% off)minus US$1.37minus £1.03minus €1.22
You payUS$26.13£19.61€23.27

On the 30-day plan the same code brings US$76.50 (£57.41 / €68.13) down to US$72.68 (£54.54 / €64.73). Small change, admittedly, but it costs nothing to type.

Holafly allows one code per order, so there is no stacking LOCALS with the 5% codes Holafly publishes on its own site or the ones circulating on coupon sites. The percentage is the same, so it makes no difference which you choose.

There is also a loyalty scheme. Purchases earn HolaCoins, 5% of each order at the entry Silver level and up to 7% at the top Platinum tier, which can be spent on later orders. Coins do not expire, but they cannot be combined with a promo code, so on any given order you choose between the code and the coins.

The referral programme pays 500 HolaCoins, worth US$5.61 (£4.21 / €5.00), for each friend whose first purchase goes through. The friend gets 10% off that first order, as long as it comes to at least US$10.00 (£7.50 / €8.91) after discounts. Monthly, annual and business plans do not earn HolaCoins.

Is there a Holafly free trial or free eSIM?

No. Holafly says plainly that it does not offer a free trial, and there is no free starter eSIM of the kind Nomad hands to new users.

What it does have is “Always On”: 1GB of backup data a month, in 150+ destinations, for as long as you keep the eSIM installed after your plan ends. It switches on automatically and refreshes every 30 days. It is not enough to stream anything, but it will find you a taxi, a map or a boarding pass on your next trip before you buy a new plan.

Holafly prices: what unlimited data costs in the UK, Europe, USA and Japan

Holafly lists prices in US dollars. All of the plans below are unlimited data, with a 1GB daily hotspot allowance. Prices checked on 19 October 2026.

Destination3 days7 days15 days30 days
UKUS$11.90 (£8.93 / €10.60)US$27.50 (£20.64 / €24.49)US$51.50 (£38.65 / €45.87)US$76.50 (£57.41 / €68.13)

The UK also has 5-day (US$20.50 / £15.38 / €18.26) and 10-day (US$37.50 / £28.14 / €33.40) plans, and 1-day plans are sold too.

The striking thing is how flat the pricing is. Three days in Tokyo costs the same as three days in Manchester, and the 33-country Europe eSIM costs exactly what the UK-only plan does. If there is any chance of a side trip to Paris or Dublin, buy the Europe plan.

The longer you stay, the cheaper each day gets: a week in the UK works out at about US$3.93 (£2.95 / €3.50) a day, a month at US$2.55 (£1.91 / €2.27).

Countries and coverage: where Holafly works

Holafly sells eSIMs for 200+ destinations, with plans running from 1 to 90 days. On top of single-country eSIMs there are regional bundles, which Holafly offers for Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, and global monthly plans covering around 160 destinations.

The Europe eSIM covers 33 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus and the Czech Republic, and, importantly for anyone flying into Heathrow on the way, the UK and Ireland.

Holafly uses local networks rather than its own. In the USA it runs on AT&T and T-Mobile; in Japan on KDDI and SoftBank. You get 5G where the network and your phone support it, and 4G or LTE elsewhere.

Key destinations and regions covered:

  • United Kingdom and Ireland
  • Europe (33-country regional plan)
  • United States
  • Japan
  • China
  • Southeast Asia (regional plan)
  • Latin America (regional plan)
  • Africa (regional plan)
  • Middle East (regional plan)

What users say: Holafly reviews on Trustpilot and the App Store

Holafly scores 4.7 out of 5 (“Excellent”) on Trustpilot from 115,436 reviews, as of 20 October 2026. That is an enormous sample, and 84% of it is five stars. Trustpilot does show a notice on the profile saying it is working with Holafly to address past breaches of its guidelines for businesses, and that the profile is under review; read the score with that in mind. On the US App Store the Holafly app rates 4.8 from around 41,000 ratings.

The praise tends to be about how easy installation is and how quickly support responds. “After ten minutes they had me up and running with a new eSIM,” wrote Rupert J. from the UK.

The complaints cluster around patchy coverage and slow speeds in particular places, which is the risk with any eSIM that rents space on someone else’s network. “Data was absolutely awful and had NO service in 90% of where we went,” wrote Duncan M., also from the UK, in a one-star review. A few reviewers also report frustration reaching support by phone, so stick to chat or WhatsApp.

How to sign up and use Holafly

  1. Check your phone. It needs to be eSIM-compatible and unlocked. iPhones from the XS and XR onwards and recent Samsung and Google Pixel phones qualify.
  2. Choose your plan. Pick a destination (or a region) and the number of days on the Holafly website or app.
  3. Apply the Promo Code. Enter LOCALS in the “Discount code” field at checkout and pay.
  4. Install before you fly. Holafly emails a QR code; on iOS 17.4 and later the app can install the eSIM with one tap. Do this at home, on Wi-Fi.
  5. Switch on when you land. Turn on the Holafly line and data roaming for it when you arrive. Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts if you like, but set mobile data to the Holafly eSIM.
  6. Keep it installed afterwards. Leave the eSIM on your phone after the trip to collect the free 1GB a month of Always On data.

When does validity start? When the eSIM first connects to a supported network at your destination, not at purchase or installation. Each day is a full 24 hours, so a plan activated at 10am runs out at 10am.

Can I use a hotspot? Yes, but only 1GB per day of the plan. A family of four sharing one phone’s hotspot in Tokyo on a seven-day plan gets 1GB a day to split, about 250MB each. That covers maps and messaging but not much video, so anyone with a compatible phone is better off with their own eSIM.

Do I get a phone number? No. Standard Holafly eSIMs are data only, so calls and messages go through WhatsApp, FaceTime and the like. The Unlimited tier of the Holafly Plans monthly subscription is the exception: it includes a phone number.

What about speed limits? Holafly does not set a daily data cap of its own, but some local operators apply fair-use rules after heavy use. If that happens, your speed may be reduced for no more than a day and goes back to normal the next day.

Holafly vs Airalo vs Saily: which unlimited UK eSIM is the best deal?

All three sell unlimited UK data. Here are their list prices for the same destination and validity, checked on 19 October 2026, with each one’s reader code applied in the second row.

On price alone, Airalo wins, particularly on a first order with its 15% new-customer code. Over a week, Holafly undercuts Saily both at list price and with codes applied; over a month, it is the dearest of the three by some way.

The deciding factor is how you use data. Airalo’s default 3GB a day of full speed is plenty for maps, messages and social media, but a heavy streamer will hit 1Mbps by mid-afternoon. Saily allows 5GB before slowing. Holafly has no daily figure of its own, which suits someone working remotely from a Lisbon flat, uploading video or sitting on long calls. If you need to share your connection with a laptop or the rest of the family, though, Airalo’s unrestricted tethering beats Holafly’s 1GB a day.

Holafly FAQs

Is Holafly legit?
Yes. Holafly is run by Holafly Limited, a company based in Dublin, and says it has sold more than 25 million eSIMs. It has 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot from over 115,000 reviews, though Trustpilot currently shows a notice that the profile is under review over past guideline breaches.

Does Holafly have a promo code?
Yes. LOCALS gives 5% off any Holafly eSIM, in any destination, and 10% off Holafly Plans subscriptions for the first 12 months. Enter it in the “Discount code” box at checkout. Only one code can be used per order.

Does Holafly offer a free trial?
No. Instead, every Holafly eSIM comes with “Always On”, 1GB of backup data a month in 150+ destinations once your plan has run out, provided you keep the eSIM installed.

Is Holafly data really unlimited?
Holafly does not cap the amount of data you can use. However, some local operators apply fair-use rules after heavy use, which can slow your connection for up to a day before full speed returns. Hotspot sharing is limited to 1GB a day.

Can I use Holafly as a hotspot?
Yes, up to 1GB per day of your plan, so a 7-day eSIM includes 7GB of shareable data. That is enough to keep a laptop on email, not to run a family’s streaming.

Does Holafly give you a phone number?
Not on standard eSIMs, which are data only. You can call and message through apps such as WhatsApp. The Unlimited tier of the Holafly Plans monthly subscription does include a phone number.

When does my Holafly plan start?
When the eSIM connects to a supported network at your destination, not when you buy or install it. So you can install it at home a few days before travelling without losing any days.

Can I get a refund from Holafly?
Holafly lets you request a refund within six months of purchase through its customer service channels. Refunds may be full or partial depending on how much of the eSIM you have used, and take five to ten working days to arrive.
