Verdict

Maya’s relaunched service is the simplest unlimited eSIM we have tested, and on price it undercuts both Holafly and Airalo for a week or a month in the UK or the USA. The catch sits in the small print: the marketing promises no throttling, while the terms describe a daily high-speed quota, and auto-renewal has caught out some users. Switch off auto-renew before you fly and it is very good value.

Pros

  • One flat price in 165+ countries, so multi-country trips need no planning
  • Cheaper than Holafly and Airalo unlimited plans at 7 and 30 days
  • Hotspot included on every plan
  • Cruise coverage on the same eSIM at no extra cost
  • Full refund within 30 days if you have not used any data

Cons

  • No phone number, calls or SMS
  • Auto-renewal is on by default in Travel Mode and has led to unexpected charges
  • Terms mention a daily high-speed quota that the sales pages do not quantify
  • Short trips are poor value: the 3-day plan works out at US$3.33 a day
  • Existing customers are left on a separate “Legacy Maya” system

Maya Mobile discount codes and offers: what actually saves you money

Search for a Maya Mobile promo code and you will find a cluster of coupon sites promising 10 to 20% off. None of those figures appears anywhere on Maya’s own site, and we could not confirm any of them, so treat codes circulating on coupon sites with caution and check the total at checkout before paying.

What Maya does offer is a real, published saving for buying longer cycles. The daily rate falls from US$3.33 on the 3-day plan to US$1.67 on the 30-day plan, which is a better discount than most codes deliver. There is no first-order offer and we found no consumer referral scheme on maya.net; the only programme listed is an affiliate scheme for publishers.

Worked example: a four-week rail trip around Europe

  • Four 7-day plans back to back: US$79.96 (£60.00 / €71.21)
  • One 30-day plan: US$49.99 (£37.51 / €44.52)
  • Saving: US$29.97 (£22.49 / €26.69), and two extra days of data thrown in

The same logic works on a fortnight in Japan. Two 7-day plans cost US$39.98 (£30.00 / €35.61); a single 14-day plan costs US$27.99 (£21.00 / €24.93), a saving of US$11.99 (£9.00 / €10.68).

Does Maya Mobile have a free eSIM or free trial?

Not for ordinary customers. Maya handed out a free 15GB, 7-day eSIM to visitors at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2026, but that was an event giveaway, and it ended with the show.

The nearest thing to a safety net is the refund policy. If you have not used any data and ask within 30 days of purchase, you are entitled to a full refund, so buying a 3-day plan to test compatibility at home costs you nothing if it does not install.

Maya Mobile prices for the UK, Europe, USA and Japan

Maya charges the same for every destination, which makes the price table unusually short. A week in Lisbon costs exactly what a week in Tokyo does.

On “unlimited”: Maya’s sales pages say “no caps, no throttling”, and its Acceptable Use Policy says typical streaming and browsing won’t be affected, with deprioritisation reserved for heavy, non-personal use during congestion. The Terms and Conditions, however, state that “high-speed delivery is subject to a daily quota” that resets every 24 hours, without giving the size of that quota for current plans. Maya’s older Standard and Max plans capped full speed at 3GB and 5GB a day, then dropped to 1Mbps.

Countries and coverage: where the Maya eSIM works

Maya claims 165+ countries, connecting to what it calls “the strongest local network” in each, on 5G where available and 4G elsewhere. It does not name its partner networks on the country pages.

The site groups destinations into regions:

  • Europe: 35 countries, including the UK, Spain and Germany
  • Africa: 29 countries
  • Caribbean: 21 destinations, including Saba
  • Asia: 20 countries, including Japan, Thailand and South Korea
  • Latin America: 17 countries, including Mexico
  • Middle East: 15 countries
  • North America: two countries, including the United States
  • Oceania: two countries

There are no separate regional bundles to buy, because one eSIM covers the lot. The Global + Cruise version adds coverage on 20+ cruise lines, among them Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess, Celebrity, Disney and Virgin Voyages, at the same price. For anyone who has seen a ship’s Wi-Fi tariff, that alone may justify the download.

Maya Mobile reviews: what Trustpilot users say

Maya scores 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 12,774 reviews, with 82% five-star and 5% one-star. That is a strong showing for an eSIM seller, a category where angry one-star reviews tend to pile up.

The recurring praise is for quick installation, dependable connections and responsive support on WhatsApp. “I had no issues and connection was excellent I will definitely use again when im away,” wrote Debra F. from the UK.

The complaints cluster around patchy connections in some countries, slow replies to technical problems, refund disputes and, most tellingly, charges people did not expect. “They charged my card for 49.99 USD out of the blue,” wrote Tim N. from Vietnam, which is exactly the 30-day renewal price. Maya replies to just over a quarter of negative reviews.

How to set up Maya Mobile, and when your plan starts

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM and is carrier unlocked. Maya lists iPhone 11 and newer, and Android 10 or later.
  2. Download the Maya Mobile app from the App Store or Google Play and create an account. Legacy Maya customers can register with the same email, but the new app is a separate system and old plans stay on the legacy site.
  3. Choose a cycle (3, 7, 14 or 30 days) and pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  4. Install the eSIM in the app before you leave home, while you still have Wi-Fi.
  5. Switch on Travel Mode when you land and turn on data roaming for the Maya line. Your home SIM stays in place for calls and texts.
  6. Turn off Auto Top-Up in My eSIM if you do not want the plan to renew at the end of the period.

Maya’s help centre says the daily allowance refreshes every 24 hours from activation, and the right to withdraw ends once the eSIM is activated. Install early, but leave Travel Mode off until you arrive.

Hotspot sharing is included, so a family of four can run one phone as a router in a Tokyo hotel room rather than buying four plans. The Acceptable Use Policy only prohibits running a commercial hotspot that resells the connection. There is no Maya phone number; for calls, use WhatsApp or FaceTime over the data line, or keep your home SIM active for roaming calls.

Maya Mobile vs Holafly vs Airalo: which unlimited eSIM is cheapest?

All three sell unlimited data, so we compared like with like at the official list prices on 19 and 20 October 2026.

PlanMaya MobileAiraloHolafly

Discounts narrow the gap but do not close it. Airalo’s Promo Code NEWTOAIRALO15 takes 15% off a first eSIM, bringing the UK 30-day plan to US$58.65 (£44.01 / €52.23). Holafly’s Promo Code LOCALS takes 5% off, so the same month costs US$72.68 (£54.54 / €64.73). Maya, with no code at all, is still cheaper than both.

Maya is the pick for long stays, island hopping and cruises, where one global price and a free hotspot do the heavy lifting. Airalo suits travellers who would rather buy a fixed amount of data for a short trip, and its first-order code is the most generous of the three. Holafly costs the most here but has a long track record with unlimited plans and a 5% code that also works on regional and global eSIMs.

Maya Mobile FAQs

Is Maya Mobile legit?
Yes. Mobile Maya Inc holds a 4.5 Trustpilot rating from more than 12,000 reviews, and publishes clear refund and acceptable-use terms. The most common complaint is about auto-renewal rather than fraud, so check your Auto Top-Up setting.

Is there a Maya Mobile promo code that works?
Maya does not publish a public discount code on its own site. Coupon sites advertise various percentages, but we could not verify them. The reliable saving is buying a longer cycle: the 30-day plan costs half as much per day as the 3-day plan.

Is Maya Mobile data really unlimited?
Your data is never cut off, and Maya’s sales pages say there is no throttling. The Terms do mention a daily high-speed quota, and heavy non-personal use can be deprioritised during congestion. For normal browsing, maps and streaming on a phone, it behaves like unlimited.

Does a Maya eSIM give you a phone number?
No. It is a data-only eSIM. You keep your usual number on your home SIM and make calls through WhatsApp, FaceTime or similar apps.

Can I use a Maya eSIM as a hotspot?
Yes, hotspot is included on every plan. You can share data with a laptop or family members’ phones, but not run a paid hotspot for other people.

Does Maya Mobile work on cruise ships?
Yes, on participating ships. The Global + Cruise eSIM covers 20+ cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian, at the same price as the standard plan. Coverage at sea depends on the ship’s system, and some users report it did not work on board.

Can I get a refund from Maya Mobile?
You get a full refund if you have not used any data and ask within 30 days of purchase. If the plan fails because of a Maya fault that is not fixed within 10 days, you are also refunded in full. Card refunds can take up to 30 business days to appear.

How do I stop Maya Mobile auto-renewing?
Open My eSIM in the app or on maya.net and switch off Auto Top-Up; it takes effect immediately. Turning it off does not refund a period that has already started.
