Getting to the airport is usually the easy part of a ski trip.
The awkward bit starts when you land with four people, several suitcases, ski bags, boots, and a resort that is still another two or three hours away.
You can rent a car. But then you need to fit everything inside it, drive mountain roads in winter, find somewhere to park, and potentially leave the car sitting outside your accommodation for most of the week.
For years, I more or less assumed renting a car was simply part of this kind of trip.
I’m less convinced now.
If you’re traveling alone or as a couple, a bus or shared ski shuttle can be much cheaper. If you’re traveling as a family or larger group, a private transfer becomes more interesting once the cost is divided between everyone.
And sometimes it isn’t really about price.
If my flight lands late, I’m traveling with children, or there are six of us standing at Geneva Airport surrounded by ski bags, I’d happily pay something extra to have the next part of the trip already sorted.
So I looked at the main ski transfer options available in 2026 to work out which ones make sense for different kinds of ski trips — and when I’d save the money and take the bus instead.
