Allianz Travel is the trip insurance many Americans buy without quite meaning to, in a pop-up at the end of an airline booking or alongside a cruise deposit. Bought directly, it offers a wider range than those checkout boxes suggest: six single-trip plans, a family of annual AllTrips plans and an upgrade, Cancel Anytime, that reimburses 80% of your non-refundable costs for almost any reason.
Our verdict: OneTrip Prime is a strong default for families and couples taking one or two trips a year, thanks to high cancellation limits, free cover for children and a clear pre-existing condition rule. Its medical cover is lower than some rivals, so travelers heading somewhere remote or expensive should look at OneTrip Premier or a medical-focused plan.

What Allianz Travel Insurance covers
Allianz Partners is one of the largest assistance companies in the world, and its US arm is run from Richmond, Virginia. Its plans combine the two halves of trip insurance: cover for the money you have paid up front, and cover for medical emergencies and evacuation once you are away.
OneTrip plans cover a single journey of up to 180 days. AllTrips plans cover every trip you take in a year, up to 45 days per trip on Basic, Prime and Executive, and 90 days on Premier. Every AllTrips plan includes emergency medical, dental and transportation cover, and there is no limit on the number of trips.
Allianz OneTrip plans compared
Figures are per insured traveler, from Allianz’s own Prime page and a plan comparison published by NerdWallet in October 2026.
| Benefit | OneTrip Basic | OneTrip Prime | OneTrip Premier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trip cancellation | US$10,000 | US$100,000 | US$200,000 |
| Trip interruption | US$10,000 | US$150,000 | US$300,000 |
| Emergency medical | US$10,000 | US$50,000 | US$75,000 |
| Emergency medical transportation | US$50,000 | US$500,000 | US$1,000,000 |
| Baggage loss or damage | US$500 | US$1,000 | US$2,000 |
| Baggage delay | US$200 | US$300 | US$600 |
| Travel delay | US$300 | US$800 | US$1,600 |
Prime also includes a Trip Change Protector of up to US$500 and SmartBenefits, which pay a fixed US$100 a day for travel delays and a fixed US$100 for bag delays of 12 hours or more without receipts. OneTrip Emergency Medical, at US$50,000 medical and US$250,000 transportation, suits trips where the money is refundable but the destination is far from home. Cancellation Plus does the opposite, covering up to US$5,000 of cancellation with no medical benefits.
Price and plans: what drives the premium
Allianz does not publish fixed prices, and we have not quoted a premium we have not seen for a specific trip. The main drivers are your insured trip cost, each traveler’s age, your state of residence, the length of the trip and the plan level. Upgrades add to the price: Cancel Anytime, the Required to Work upgrade, and the OneTrip Rental Car Protector, which Allianz lists at US$13 per calendar day.
Children make a real difference. On OneTrip Prime and Premier, children aged 17 and under are covered free when traveling with a parent or grandparent. That benefit is not available on policies issued to Pennsylvania residents.
Pre-existing medical conditions
Allianz defines a pre-existing condition as an illness, injury or condition that, in the 120 days before and including the day you buy the policy, led you to see a doctor, showed symptoms, or needed prescribed medication (unless it was controlled by an unchanged prescription).
On OneTrip Prime and Premier, and on the AllTrips Prime, Executive and Premier plans, those conditions can be covered if you:
- buy within 14 days of your first trip payment or deposit (or, on AllTrips, book the trip during the coverage period)
- insure the full non-refundable cost of the trip
- are a US resident
- are medically able to travel on the day you buy
Fourteen days is a short window. If anyone in your party has a health condition, buy on the day you pay the deposit.
Cancel Anytime: Allianz’s version of CFAR
Cancel Anytime is an optional upgrade that reimburses 80% of lost, non-refundable trip costs for almost any unforeseeable reason the plan does not already cover. Most rivals pay 50% or 75% for their cancel for any reason upgrades, so 80% is the most generous we found in this comparison. Allianz says it can only be bought as an upgrade to OneTrip Prime or OneTrip Premier, that you must insure the full cost of your trip within 14 days of your first trip deposit or other trip payment, and that the trip must start at least 30 days after you buy. Unlike most rivals, which need 48 hours’ notice, it lets you cancel as late as the day of departure, provided you have not left. It is not offered in every state.
What we liked
- High cancellation limits on Prime. US$100,000 per person covers almost any family holiday or cruise.
- Free cover for children. A real saving for families of four or five.
- Cancel Anytime at 80%. The strongest any-reason upgrade in our comparison.
- Annual plans. AllTrips is a tidy option for people who take several short trips a year, and includes rental car damage cover of up to US$45,000 (not for Kansas, Texas or New York residents).
- Financial strength. Both underwriters carry A or A+ ratings from AM Best.
What we did not like
- Modest medical limits. US$50,000 on Prime and US$75,000 on Premier are lower than the US$150,000 on Travel Guard Deluxe or the US$250,000 on Travelex Ultimate.
- Short waiver window. Fourteen days, against 20 on Seven Corners and 21 on Travelex Ultimate.
- Cancel Anytime has strings attached. It is limited to OneTrip Prime and Premier, needs the trip to be at least 30 days away and is not sold in every state.
- Limited adventure cover. CNBC Select also flags limited options for adventure travel.
How Allianz compares
Allianz vs Travel Guard. Travel Guard Deluxe pays more for medical care (US$150,000) and evacuation (US$1 million) than Allianz Prime, but its cancel for any reason upgrade returns only 50%. Allianz wins on children and the size of its CFAR payout. See our Travel Guard review.
Allianz vs Travelex Insurance. Travelex Ultimate offers US$250,000 of medical cover, kids-included pricing and a 21-day pre-existing condition window. Allianz has the bigger cancellation limits and the annual plans. See our Travelex Insurance review.
Allianz vs Seven Corners. Seven Corners’ Trip Protection Choice includes up to US$500,000 of primary medical cover and a 20-day waiver window, which makes it the better pick for a traveler with a health condition heading somewhere remote.
Who should buy Allianz Travel Insurance?
Buy OneTrip Prime if you are a US family or couple with a holiday costing a few thousand dollars, children in tow and no plans for anything riskier than snorkeling. Choose Premier for an expensive trip that needs higher limits, and consider AllTrips if you travel several times a year. Look elsewhere if your priority is very high medical cover or adventure sports.
