Defending champion Dorian van Rijsselberge came second with half that amount of votes (89), per WindsurfingNZ.com.
Another Israeli star, Lee Korzits, 34, received the most votes (161) to win what be her fifth world crown in September. Again, Korzits beat the next most voted female, Poland’s Zofia Klepacka, by at least double in the ballot as she received only 73 votes.
Korzits won her first world title in 2003 when she was still a teenager, adding three more to her tally between 2011 and 2013. Aside from those four gold medals, she’s never finished on the podium.
Three of Israel’s nine Olympic medals have come in windsurfing, not to mention the nation’s only gold was won by Gal Fridman in the men’s sailboard at Athens 2004.
