Lebara Travel eSIM Promo Code: 20% Extra Data, UK Plans From US$5 and 24/7 Live Chat

Lebara Travel eSIM review: 20% extra data on longer plans, prices from US$5, 190+ destinations, user ratings and how it compares with Airalo and Holafly.

Lebara Travel eSIM Promo Code: 20% Extra Data, UK Plans From US$5 and 24/7 Live Chat

Lebara built its name selling cheap SIMs to people who call home a lot. Its Travel eSIM turns that habit around: data only, bought in an app, switched on when you land, and priced low enough to make the big unlimited brands look a little greedy.

  • Plan types: single-country data plans; no regional or global bundles found
  • Cheapest plan: US$5 (£3.75 / €4.45), which buys 3GB for three days in the UK
  • Unlimited from: no unlimited plans found on the destination pages we checked
  • Free plan or trial: none

  • Trustpilot: 4.7/5 from 504 reviews

Verdict

Lebara Travel eSIM is a straightforward, keenly priced data eSIM from a big telecoms name, with live human support that reviewers keep mentioning by agent name. It is not the one for long multi-country trips or for people who want unlimited data, and the absence of any welcome discount means the headline value is in the plans themselves.

Pros

  • Low entry prices: US$5 (£3.75 / €4.45) gets you started in most of Europe
  • Generous allowances on longer plans, with 20% extra data on the 15-day and 30-day tiers
  • Validity starts when you arrive, not when you buy
  • Installs inside the app with no QR code to scan
  • 24/7 live chat with real people, which reviewers rate highly

Cons

  • No regional plans, so a three-country rail trip means three eSIMs
  • No unlimited data option
  • No phone number, calls or texts
  • No first-order code or free trial
  • Some users report the eSIM failing to connect on arrival

Lebara promo codes, extra data and referral credit: what actually saves you money

There is no Lebara Travel eSIM promo code that we could verify on the brand’s own site or in its help pages. No first-order discount, no welcome code, and no referral programme appears on Lebara’s travel site. Codes circulating on coupon sites tend to be for Lebara’s UK SIM-only contracts rather than the travel eSIM, so read the small print before you get excited.

What Lebara does offer is more data for the money. On the UK destination page, the 15-day, 30-day and larger 30-day plans carry a “20% Extra Data” label, which is effectively a discount on the price per gigabyte.

A worked example: the 15-day UK plan costs US$20 (£15.01 / €17.81). Without the bonus it would include 20GB, which works out at US$1.00 (£0.75 / €0.89) per gigabyte. With the extra 20% you get 24GB, bringing the cost down to US$0.83 (£0.63 / €0.74) per gigabyte. You pay the same; you simply have more to burn through.

For comparison, our sister site’s Airalo code NEWTOAIRALO15 knocks 15% off a first eSIM, so Airalo’s US$27 (£20.26 / €24.05) seven-day unlimited UK plan drops to US$22.95 (£17.22 / €20.44). Holafly‘s LOCALS code takes 5% off, bringing its US$27.50 (£20.64 / €24.49) seven-day UK plan to US$26.13 (£19.61 / €23.27). Even after those codes, Lebara’s eight-day UK plan at US$10 (£7.50 / €8.91) is the cheaper option, provided 7GB is enough.

Is there a Lebara free trial or free eSIM?

No. Lebara does not offer a free plan, free trial or free test data on its Travel eSIM, and we found no “first gigabyte free” style promotion in the app listing or on the website.

If you want to try before you commit, the cheapest route is the three-day 3GB plan at US$5 (£3.75 / €4.45). It is small enough to treat as a test run on a weekend away, and because validity only starts when you land, you can install it well before the trip.

Lebara Travel eSIM prices for the UK, Europe, USA and Japan

Lebara lists its prices in US dollars on its travel website. The UK is the only destination where we could see the full plan ladder, and it is a useful benchmark for how the brand prices popular countries.

In practice, a week in Lisbon with maps, messaging and a bit of Instagram would sit comfortably within a modest plan. A month working remotely from Manchester is where the 36GB tier earns its keep: roughly 1.2GB a day, which covers video calls if you are not streaming 4K in the evenings as well. Pricier long-haul and island destinations start higher: Australia, the Bahamas and Bermuda begin at US$10 (£7.50 / €8.91).

Countries and coverage: where Lebara Travel eSIM works

Lebara says its Travel eSIM works in more than 190 countries through local network partners, although its own app listing gives 180 in the subtitle. Either way, the reach is broad enough for almost any holiday.

The catch is structure. Every plan is for a single destination, and we found no Europe, Asia or global bundle. A fortnight split between Paris, Barcelona and Rome means buying three plans, whereas a regional eSIM from a rival covers the lot.

Destinations Lebara highlights as popular include:

  • United Kingdom and Ireland
  • Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Greece
  • Germany and the Netherlands
  • Turkey
  • India
  • Canada and Mexico

Further down the list it reaches places most travellers will never need, from Bhutan and Burundi to Ascension Island and, improbably, Antarctica.

What users say: Lebara Travel eSIM reviews on Trustpilot

Lebara Travel eSIM scores 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 504 reviews, rated “Excellent”. The app holds 4.5 from 626 ratings on Apple’s UK App Store and 4.9 on Google Play.

The recurring praise is about people rather than product. Reviewers repeatedly name support agents who talked them through installation, and the 24/7 live chat with a human is the single most common reason for a five-star score. Doug from the UK, who used it in Sri Lanka, wrote: “Connectivity was excellent and it was great value too.”

The complaints are mostly about getting started. Several reviewers could not get the eSIM to connect on arrival, including travellers in the US and Egypt, and a few mention that the plan shows up under a local partner network’s name, which caused confusion. Refunds do seem to be honoured when the eSIM fails. Muso, also from the UK, gave four stars “as only as it wasn’t a straightforward process”, but praised how quickly an agent sorted the refund.

Google Play reviewers also report unreliable login and email verification codes in the app, which is worth knowing if you plan to buy your eSIM at the departure gate.

How to sign up for Lebara Travel eSIM and use it abroad

  1. Check your phone. It must support eSIM and be network unlocked. Lebara’s site and app both have a compatibility checker.
  2. Download the app. Lebara: Travel eSIM is on the App Store and Google Play. Purchases happen in the app, paid by card or Apple Pay.
  3. Pick your destination and plan. Choose the country, then the allowance and number of days.
  4. Install before you fly. Installation happens inside the app, with no QR code. You need an internet connection to install, but it uses none of your plan’s data.
  5. Switch on when you land. The plan activates automatically once your phone connects to a local network in the destination. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM, set it as your mobile data line, and leave your home SIM for calls and texts.
  6. Top up if needed. Running low? Add data from the app’s dashboard. Top-ups do not extend the plan’s expiry date.

Because validity starts on arrival, there is no penalty for buying a week early. On hotspot, Lebara’s help centre says it should work “if your plan and device support it”, which is not quite a guarantee. A family of four sharing one phone’s connection in a Tokyo hotel might want to confirm with support before relying on it.

There is no phone number. You can still make calls and send messages through WhatsApp and other apps over the data connection.

If you are a Lebara UK SIM-only customer, the travel eSIM is a separate product with its own app. Your existing plan includes roaming in the EU and some other destinations, with the current list and fair-use limit on Lebara’s roaming page, so the travel eSIM makes most sense for trips beyond that list.

Lebara vs Airalo vs Holafly: which travel eSIM should you pick?

Here is how the three compare for a trip to the UK, using each brand’s official prices. Lebara’s figures are fixed allowances; Airalo’s and Holafly’s are unlimited plans.

On price per gigabyte, Lebara wins comfortably in a single country. A month in the UK costs less than half of Airalo’s or Holafly’s unlimited plans, and 60GB is more than most people will use outside of streaming. If you are a light-to-moderate user staying in one place, it is the obvious choice of the three.

Airalo is the better pick for multi-country trips, thanks to its Europe bundle and the 15% first-order code, while Holafly suits heavy users who would rather not think about data at all. Anyone who tethers a laptop daily, binges series on trains or shares a connection with teenagers will find unlimited worth the premium.

Lebara Travel eSIM FAQs

Is Lebara Travel eSIM legit?
Yes. It is run by Lebara, the mobile operator that has been selling SIMs in the UK and Europe for around two decades, and it holds a 4.7 TrustScore from more than 500 Trustpilot reviews. Complaints centre on activation problems rather than missing orders or unexplained charges.

Is there a Lebara Travel eSIM promo code?
We found no promo code, first-order discount or referral offer on Lebara’s own site. The current saving is built into the plans: the 15-day and 30-day tiers carry 20% extra data at no extra cost.

Does Lebara Travel eSIM have unlimited data?
Not on the destination pages we checked. Plans come with fixed allowances, topping out at 60GB for 30 days in the UK. If you need unlimited data, Airalo and Holafly both sell it.

When does a Lebara Travel eSIM plan start?
It starts automatically when you arrive and your phone connects to a local network. That means you can buy and install the plan days ahead without losing any of its validity.

Can I use a hotspot with Lebara Travel eSIM?
Lebara says hotspot should work if your plan and device support it. If it doesn’t, the help centre suggests checking your hotspot settings and restarting the phone.

Does Lebara Travel eSIM give you a phone number?
No. It is a data-only eSIM. Keep your normal SIM active for calls and texts, or use WhatsApp and similar apps over data.

Does Lebara Travel eSIM cover several countries on one plan?
No. Every plan is for a single destination, so a trip across several countries needs one plan per country. For a multi-country European trip, a regional plan from a rival is usually simpler.

Can I get a refund from Lebara Travel eSIM?
Lebara asks customers with refund or payment problems to contact support with their order ID. Several Trustpilot reviewers report that refunds were processed quickly when an eSIM failed to work.
