Smarkets Promo Code COMMFREE: 60 Days at 0% Commission, Then 2% on a London Exchange

Smarkets Promo Code COMMFREE gives new UK users 0% commission for 60 days. Our Smarkets review covers terms, withdrawals, app, support and safety.

Smarkets Betting Bonus

Smarkets is a London betting exchange founded by Jason Trost, a former stock trader who still runs it, and it has always behaved more like a trading floor than a bookmaker. You bet against other people rather than the house, pay a small commission on your winnings instead, and you will not find a casino anywhere on the site.

We like it for its 2% standard commission and for politics and current affairs markets that few UK rivals can match. Here is our Smarkets review, starting with the welcome offer and the Promo Code.

Smarkets Betting Exchange Bonus

Smarkets welcome offer and sign up bonus

There is no free bet. Enter Promo Code COMMFREE when you register and you pay no commission at all on bets that settle in your first 60 days. For an active exchange user that can be worth more than a typical bookmaker bonus; for someone who bets a fiver now and then, it is worth very little. It is open to new UK users aged 18 and over who are not existing SBK sportsbook users.

On an exchange you either back a selection to win or lay it to lose, and other users take the opposite side. Smarkets makes its money by charging commission on your net winnings in each market. The standard rate is 2%, and COMMFREE cuts that to zero for 60 days from your first deposit.

  1. Register and type COMMFREE into the Promo Code field during sign-up.
  2. Make a first deposit of £10 or more in one go, by debit card or instant banking.
  3. Bet as normal. The 0% rate applies to “all bets that settle within 60 days from the first deposit”.

A worked example. You back a team for £50 at 3.0 and it wins, giving net winnings of £100 on that market. At the standard 2%, Smarkets would take £2. With COMMFREE you keep the full £100. Win £1,000 net across all your markets in the 60 days and the saving is £20. Lay bets work the same way: lay a horse at 4.0 with a £20 backer’s stake, your liability is £60, and if it loses you keep the £20 with no commission taken. The value grows with how much you win, not how much you stake, and losing bets never pay commission anyway.

The catches. There is no wagering, no minimum odds, no bonus balance and no stated maximum, but the timing is strict: bets that settle after day 60 pay the standard rate, even if you placed them during the promotion. Eligible users who do not enter COMMFREE at registration “will automatically get the standard rate of commission of 2%”. First deposits by Skrill, Neteller, PayPal or a virtual or prepaid card, including virtual Monzo cards, do not qualify, and the help centre version of the terms also lists Revolut. Anyone accessing Smarkets through an API or trading software is excluded, as are customers emailed to say they are not eligible for bonuses. The offer is limited to one per person, family, household, email address, payment account, IP address or shared computer, and cannot be combined with any other sign-up promotion.

Making the days count. The clock runs from your first deposit, so fund the account when you are ready to bet, not a fortnight before the season starts. Watch settlement dates, because an ante-post bet that settles after day 60 pays 2%. The saving adds up fastest if you lay selections regularly or use an exchange alongside bookmaker offers. And do not chase volume: a commission discount is only worth something on bets you would have placed anyway.

Smarkets review: our verdict

Smarkets does the basics of an exchange well: tidy markets, a standard 2% commission and a welcome offer that rewards people who use an exchange properly. Sixty commission-free days is genuinely useful for traders and matched bettors, and Instant Bank Transfer withdrawals are quick. The weaknesses are customer sentiment, with a low Trustpilot score driven by account locks and withdrawal complaints, an Android app that rates far below its iPhone twin, and an offer that gives a casual bettor almost nothing.

Pros

  • No commission on settled bets for 60 days with Promo Code COMMFREE
  • Standard commission of 2% afterwards, with a 1% Pro Tier for very high-volume accounts
  • Strong politics and current affairs markets alongside football and racing
  • Back and lay on the same platform, with a price chart on every market
  • Instant Bank Transfer withdrawals processed in around 12 hours
  • iPhone app rated 4.8 from 4.6k ratings on the UK App Store

Cons

  • No free bet, so little value for occasional bettors
  • The Promo Code must go in at registration; forget it and you pay 2% from day one
  • PayPal, Revolut, Skrill, Neteller and virtual cards are excluded from the offer
  • API and trading-software users cannot claim it
  • Android app rated 2.8 on Google Play, with complaints about speed and stability
  • Trustpilot score of 2.2/5, with complaints about locked accounts and slow payouts

Betting on Smarkets: exchange markets, lay bets and politics

Smarkets covers the sports you would expect, led by football, horse racing and tennis, but its reputation was built on politics and current affairs. Trost got the idea from watching political trading markets move in real time, and election and economic markets still sit alongside sport on the homepage, with in-play events and a predictions section. Each market shows a price chart, which helps you see how the odds have moved before you commit.

The core tools are backing and laying, a “Your Bets” view of open and settled positions, and a liability display for lay bets. Odds quality depends on liquidity, which is usually deepest on Premier League football and major race meetings and thinner on niche markets. If you want fixed-odds extras such as bet builders and acca boosts, those live on SBK, the sister sportsbook. On the exchange itself, a trade out option lets you close a position before the market settles.

Smarkets is also the Official Sports Trading Partner of SailGP under a three-year deal, which includes sponsorship of the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team and the Portsmouth event, and brings pre-race and in-play sailing markets to the exchange.

Smarkets promotions for existing customers

Smarkets does not run a loyalty scheme in the bookmaker sense. Its help centre lists occasional promotions instead, often tied to sponsorships, such as a SailGP 0% commission offer and refunds on net losses up to £25 on selected SailGP events. Separate 0% commission deals are also run with certain matched betting partners. Check the Bonus & Promotions section of the help centre for the latest. Very high-volume accounts, those placing more than 1,500 bets or staking over £1m in a calendar month, can opt in to a 1% Pro Tier, although moving tier forfeits any commission promotion.

Smarkets deposits and withdrawal times

Smarkets uses a closed-loop system: withdrawals return to the method you deposited with, up to your net deposits on each, before profits can go elsewhere. Smarkets charges no fees.

MethodMin depositMin withdrawalWithdrawal time
Instant Bank Transfer£10£1012 hours
Visa debit£10£101 to 6 business days
Mastercard / Maestro£10£10 (some cards capped at net deposits)1 to 6 business days

Skrill / Neteller£10£101 to 2 business days
Bank transfern/a£205 to 10 business days

The fourth and later e-wallet withdrawals within seven days take 24 hours to process. Smarkets recommends a Visa debit card for free, instant deposits and withdrawals without a cap.

The Smarkets app and customer support

Smarkets runs apps for iOS and Android as well as its desktop site. The iPhone app holds 4.8 out of 5 from 4.6k ratings on the UK App Store, while the Android app scores 2.8 from about 1.37k reviews on Google Play.

Live chat is open from 09:00 to 23:00 GMT and only appears once you are logged in. Email goes to support@smarkets.com, and there is no phone line. The company’s postal address is 1 Commodity Quay, St Katharine Docks, London E1W 1AZ, and it posts service updates on X.

Smarkets reviews: what users say

Opinion depends heavily on where you look. iPhone users rate Smarkets 4.8 from 4.6k ratings, Android users 2.8 from 1.37k reviews, and Trustpilot 2.2 out of 5 from 626 reviews. The praise is for a quick, clean iPhone app, easy withdrawals and helpful service. The most common complaints involve accounts being locked or restricted, delays getting money out, slow replies during verification checks and, on Android, an app that lags or misreads taps.

“The app is brilliant. It’s quick, slick … and bug free so far,” wrote App Store reviewer Lascebollitas in July 2022.

“Customer service is great and payouts and withdrawals are easy,” wrote Anthony on Trustpilot in October 2024.

“unusable app - slow, non responsive. matches seem to be in no particular order,” wrote Jamie G. on Google Play in May 2025.

“It’s another month, and I still haven’t received my money,” wrote Ray L. on Trustpilot in October 2026.

Is Smarkets legit? Licence, safety and safer gambling tools

Yes. Smarkets is operated by Smarkets (Malta) Limited, licensed by the UK Gambling Commission as a remote betting intermediary under account number 39173, with smarkets.com listed on the register. It is also licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority and the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland. In a past enforcement case, the Gambling Commission fined the company £630,000 for anti-money laundering and social responsibility failings and required an audit of its controls.

The safer gambling tools in your account settings include:

  • Deposit, loss and stake limits
  • Time-outs of up to 42 days, lifted automatically when they end
  • Self-exclusion for six months, one year, five years or permanently
  • Gambling blocks

Smarkets points users to GAMSTOP if they want to exclude from every online gambling operator licensed in Great Britain at once. For free, confidential support, visit GambleAware.org or call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, open 24 hours a day.

Who should pick which: when DailyStoke put the three side by side, Matchbook Exchange gave the longer commission-free window, counted from registration rather than first deposit, which suits anyone planning a long season of exchange betting. Smarkets is the stronger pick for politics and current affairs markets. SBK is the choice if you want a conventional free bet, but you cannot take both SBK’s offer and Smarkets’ offer, because existing users of one are excluded from the other.

Smarkets FAQs

What is the Smarkets promo code?
COMMFREE. Enter it in the Promo Code field during registration to get 0% commission for 60 days.

Does Smarkets give a free bet to new customers?
No. The welcome offer is a commission discount, not a free bet. The sister sportsbook SBK runs the free bet offer.

What is the Smarkets commission rate?
The standard rate is 2% of net winnings on a market. With COMMFREE it is 0% on bets that settle within 60 days of your first deposit.

Can I add the Promo Code after signing up?
The terms say the Promo Code must be entered during registration. Without it, the standard 2% applies from your first deposit.

Can I deposit with PayPal and still get the offer?
No. First deposits by PayPal, Revolut, Skrill, Neteller or virtual and prepaid cards do not qualify. Use a debit card or instant banking.

How long do Smarkets withdrawals take?
About 12 hours by Instant Bank Transfer, 1 to 2 business days for Trustly, PayPal and e-wallets, and 1 to 6 business days to a debit card.

Does Smarkets have a casino?
No. Smarkets offers exchange betting and markets only, with fixed-odds sports betting on its sister brand SBK.

Is Smarkets safe to use?
It is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission under account 39173 and offers deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. Its Trustpilot rating is low, largely because of account restrictions and withdrawal complaints.

Is Smarkets good for matched betting?
Its low standard commission and the 60-day 0% window suit lay betting, but the terms exclude anyone using an API or trading software from the welcome offer.
