Amazon Luna review: what Prime members get free, Luna Premium at US$9.99 a month, the 14 cloud play countries, devices, speed and the 2026 changes.

Amazon Luna Review: Free Games With Prime, Luna Premium From US$9.99 a Month, and What Changed in 2026

Amazon Luna is the cloud gaming service that comes with Prime. If you already pay for Prime in one of the 14 countries where Luna streams, you can play a rotating library of 60-odd games on a Fire TV Stick, a laptop or a phone at no extra cost, without a console or a download. Pay for Luna Premium and the library grows. What Luna no longer does is let you bring your own games or subscriptions: Amazon shut that side down in 2026. This review covers what you get, what it costs, where it works and how it compares with the rest of our gaming hub.

What Amazon Luna is, and who owns it

Luna is Amazon’s cloud gaming service, running on Amazon Web Services. The games run on Amazon’s servers and stream to your screen like a video, while your controller inputs travel the other way. It opened by invitation in the US in October 2020, launched fully there in March 2022, and reached the UK, Germany and Canada in March 2023.

Luna has been reshaped several times since. In October 2025, Prime Gaming was folded into the Luna brand, so the free PC games Prime members claim now sit under Luna too. In April 2026, Amazon stopped selling third-party channels and individual games through Luna, ended its link-your-own-library feature for Ubisoft, EA and GOG games, and focused the service on two tiers: Luna Standard with Prime, and Luna Premium.

Amazon Luna prices: every tier explained

TierPriceWhat you get
Luna StandardIncluded with Prime60+ games, including recent big releases, plus GameNight
Luna PremiumUS$9.99 a month (about £7.50 / €8.90)A larger library on top of Standard
GameNightIncluded45+ casual multiplayer games using phones as controllers

Amazon publishes Premium’s US price; it sets local prices in other countries, and Luna shows them when you sign in. The older Luna+ channel cost £8.99 a month in the UK and €9.99 in Germany when it launched there in 2023.

Ubisoft+ and Jackbox. These used to be add-on channels, at US$17.99 and US$4.99 a month. Amazon stopped selling both in April 2026, and Ubisoft+ subscriptions bought from Ubisoft stopped working on Luna after 10 June 2026. Games bought outright on Luna were removed on the same date, without refunds; they remain playable through the original publisher’s PC launcher. See our Ubisoft+ review for the alternatives.

Free trial and official discounts

The main saving is simple: if you already pay for Prime, Luna Standard costs nothing extra. Amazon usually offers new Prime customers a free trial, which includes Luna Standard for its duration. Amazon has not advertised a standing free trial of Luna Premium, though it said in April 2026 that some affected customers would be offered Premium free.

There is no Luna Promo Code from Amazon, and codes on coupon sites are not official.

A worked example: what you really pay

Take a family of four in Hamburg who already pay for Prime for deliveries and Prime Video, and who own a Fire TV Stick but no console.

  • Luna Standard: €0 extra. They can stream games such as Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Mirage while they are in the rotation, and play GameNight titles such as Ticket to Ride and Draw & Guess with their phones as controllers.
  • Add Luna Premium for three winter months: about US$29.97 (£22.49 / €26.69) at the US price, for extras such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Batman: Arkham Knight.
  • The console route: a games console plus a few games would cost several hundred euros up front.

For a household that wants occasional, sofa-friendly gaming, that is hard to beat. For a teenager who wants to play the same online shooter every night, it is the wrong tool.

Game library highlights

Amazon lists these among the games available, and the line-up rotates:

  • Luna Standard (with Prime): Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Hogwarts Legacy, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Dispatch, Sonic Mania Plus, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Star Wars Outlaws
  • Luna Premium: Sonic Superstars, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Batman: Arkham Knight
  • GameNight: Angry Birds Flock Party, Draw & Guess, The Jackbox Party Pack 9, Ticket to Ride, Exploding Kittens 2, Clue and Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg

Streaming requirements and countries

Amazon recommends at least 10Mbps, over 5GHz Wi-Fi or a wired connection. Cloud gaming is less forgiving than video: a connection that handles Netflix can still stutter in a racing game if the Wi-Fi is congested.

Countries with Luna cloud play (14): United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Countries with claimable games only: since October 2025, Prime members in Australia, Brazil, Egypt, India, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey and the UAE can claim free PC games through Luna but cannot stream.

Because Luna streams only in these 14 countries, a Prime member from Manchester on a fortnight in Bangkok should not count on playing, while a trip within the list, say to Valencia, is a better bet.

Devices supported

  • TV: Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube; selected Samsung and LG smart TVs; on Fire TV in the US and UK, Luna also appears as a Games tab in the Prime Video app
  • Computers: Windows, Mac and Chromebook, in a browser or app
  • Phones and tablets: Android; iPhone and iPad through a web app; Fire tablets
  • Other: selected Comcast Xfinity devices in the US and the Rogers Xfinity Stream Box in Canada
  • Controllers: the Luna Controller (US$69.99), Xbox and PlayStation 4 or 5 controllers, the Razer Kishi, or the free Luna Phone Controller app; GameNight needs only a phone

How to subscribe and cancel

  1. Go to Luna in a browser or open the Luna app on a supported device.
  2. Sign in with the Amazon account that holds your Prime membership.
  3. Play anything in the included library straight away; GameNight games show a QR code to scan with your phone.
  4. To add Luna Premium, choose it in Luna and confirm with your Amazon payment method.

To cancel Premium, go to Your Memberships & Subscriptions on Amazon, select Amazon Luna, choose the subscription and turn off automatic renewal. You keep access until the end of the billing period, and your game progress is saved if you come back with the same account.

Customer service

Support runs through Amazon’s normal customer service, with Luna help pages on Amazon’s site. Billing sits with your Amazon account.

What users say

Luna does not have a review profile of its own, and it rarely draws the volume of complaints that the bigger services do. The 2026 changes did draw criticism in the press: Engadget noted that Amazon did not refund games bought on Luna, unlike Google when it closed Stadia, and the loss of Ubisoft+ took away one of the service’s most-used features. The consistent praise is for convenience: a Prime member can be playing on a Fire TV Stick in a minute, with no download and no extra bill.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Luna Standard included with Prime at no extra cost
  • Recent big games in the Prime rotation
  • GameNight party games work with phones as controllers
  • Plays on Fire TV, smart TVs, laptops and phones
  • No downloads or console needed

Cons

  • Cloud play in only 14 countries
  • The library rotates, so games can leave mid-playthrough
  • No bring-your-own games or Ubisoft+ since 2026
  • Purchased games removed in 2026 without refunds
  • Needs a strong, stable connection

Amazon Luna FAQs

Is Amazon Luna free with Prime?
Yes. Luna Standard, with 60+ games and GameNight, is included with Prime in the 14 Luna countries. Luna Premium costs extra.

How much is Luna Premium?
US$9.99 a month in the US. Amazon sets local prices elsewhere.

Is Amazon Luna available in the UK?
Yes, since March 2023. It is also available in Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Can I play Amazon Luna in Australia, India or Japan?
Not as cloud gaming. Prime members there can claim free PC games through Luna, but cannot stream.

Can I still play Ubisoft+ on Luna?
No. Amazon stopped selling it in April 2026, and Ubisoft+ access on Luna ended after 10 June 2026.

What internet speed do I need for Amazon Luna?
At least 10Mbps, ideally over 5GHz Wi-Fi or a wired connection.

Can I play Amazon Luna on an iPhone?
Yes, through a web app in Safari rather than an App Store app.

Do I need a controller for Amazon Luna?
For most games, yes: a Luna Controller, an Xbox or PlayStation controller, or the Luna Phone Controller app. GameNight games need only your phone.

How do I cancel Luna Premium?
In Your Memberships & Subscriptions on Amazon, select Amazon Luna and turn off automatic renewal. Access continues until the end of the billing period.

Can I use Luna on holiday?
In another Luna country, usually yes. Streaming over hotel Wi-Fi is often poor; a travel eSIM with a 5G connection can work better, and a VPN protects your Amazon log-in on public networks, though it can add lag.

Verdict

Luna has become a Prime perk rather than a product to buy for its own sake, and judged that way it is good. A Prime household gets a rotating set of recent games and an excellent party-game collection on the TV it already owns, for nothing. Luna Premium is cheap but thin compared with Game Pass, and the 2026 retreat from bring-your-own games and Ubisoft+ makes it hard to recommend to serious players. If you have Prime, try it tonight. If you do not, it is not a reason to sign up.
