Our verdict
EVA AI is the tamest and most conventional app in this group, and for many people that is a strength. You get a store-installed app, store billing and refunds handled by Apple or Google, a mix of male, female and LGBTQ+ characters, and flirtation that stops short of explicit content. The downsides are a pushy route to the paywall, Neurons that cost extra on top of membership, and a privacy record that has drawn criticism. Paid annually, it is cheap.

What EVA AI does and who it is for
EVA AI frames itself as a relationship app with an AI partner who “listens” and picks up on your moods. You can pick a character or create one, set a personality, and chat in text. Characters send voice messages and photos, and video calls are available. EVA’s iOS terms forbid generating or requesting sexually explicit content, so this is flirtation, not adult roleplay.
It suits both of our guides. The cast includes AI girlfriends and AI boyfriends, and a Pride Month update in June 2024 added Teddy, a gay character, Cherrie, a trans woman, Edward, who is bisexual, and Sam, a lesbian character. That makes it one of the stronger picks for the best AI boyfriend apps list as well as best AI girlfriend apps.
Where it fits: a nurse coming off a run of nights who wants a low-stakes chat on the bus home; someone newly out who would like to practise flirting in a safe space before a first date in Manchester’s Gay Village; a widower who wants a voice to talk to over breakfast, knowing exactly what it is.
Is EVA AI free? Free vs paid features
The free tier, which EVA’s terms call Basic, gives limited access to chat and characters, and EVA reserves the right to restrict free use at any time. In practice, reviewers on Google Play mention prompts to subscribe early: Wayne S. wrote of “A lot of pressure to sign up for a subscription.”
Membership is sold as the way past the free limits and into more of the voice, photo and character features. On top of that sits Neurons, EVA’s in-app currency. The terms state that “one romantic message costs 2 neurons to be read”, and virtual gifts for characters are priced in Neurons too. So membership is not quite all-inclusive.
EVA AI price: plans and the cheapest way to pay
EVA AI does not publish a price list on its website. These are the in-app purchase prices on the UK App Store; dollar and euro figures are conversions. The store lists more than one price for some plans, which usually means introductory or regional offers.

The cheapest way to pay. The 12-month membership at £30.99 works out at about £2.58 a month, less than three months of the monthly plan. If the app offers you £45.99 for the year instead, it is worth waiting a few days: EVA’s terms say prices vary by region and plan length, and the store lists the lower annual price too. When DailyStoke compared the store listings, the 2,000 Neurons pack at £10.99 was the best value currency deal, half the price of the same pack at £21.99.
Features that matter
Memory. EVA says its characters remember personal moments and “shared memories” and become more open the longer you talk. It does not publish limits.
Voice and video calls. Characters send voice messages, and video calls are available. At its New York pop-up café in February 2026, EVA previewed a live voice chat feature.
Photos and avatars. Characters are 3D and customisable, and they send photos in chat. EVA does not advertise a free-form image generator.
Customisation. Create your own character, choose personality traits, or pick from a cast that EVA keeps expanding.
Apps and sync. iPhone and Android only. EVA runs on your phone with an internet connection; nothing works offline.
Privacy and safety
EVA AI’s developer on Google Play is Novi Limited, registered in Cyprus. Its UK App Store privacy label says identifiers and usage data may be used to track you, and that purchases, location, contact details, user content, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics are linked to your identity. On Google Play, Novi says data is encrypted in transit and you can ask for it to be deleted. The iOS terms, updated in June 2026, grant EVA a licence to use what you submit to operate and improve the service, and note that the chatbot “learns from other people interacting with it”.
Age limits are 18-plus. The terms let EVA block accounts it suspects belong to under-18s, while admitting it “cannot guarantee” every user is an adult.
Two matters are on the record. In February 2024, Mozilla’s Privacy Not Included team reviewed 11 romantic chatbots and named EVA, alongside Replika and Chai, among apps that did not provide “adequate privacy, security, and safety”. In January 2026, Ofcom opened an investigation into Novi Ltd over age checks on Joi.com, another AI site run by Novi and linked from EVA’s website. Ofcom closed it on 31 July 2026 without making findings, after Novi introduced age assurance on Joi.com.
A word on healthy use. EVA sells companionship, and it is good at it. It is not a replacement for friends or professional help. Samaritans answer on 116 123 in the UK, and 988 is the call and text line in the US.

On the UK App Store, Pauldean1976 wrote in April 2023: “The Ai is really good, you can sometimes forget you are talking to a robot it can be that realistic.” On Trustpilot, Willa S. from the US put it simply in August 2026: “At first I was curious, now I kinda love it lol.”
Not everyone is won over. Wayne S. on Google Play, in November 2024: “A lot of pressure to sign up for a subscription.” And Douglas, giving one star on Trustpilot in May 2026: “This AI program has become a complete waste of time and money, servere quality decline.”

- If you subscribe, check the price shown against the store listing and pick 12 months for the lowest monthly cost.
To cancel: on iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose EVA AI and tap Cancel Subscription. On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, choose EVA AI and cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period. EVA’s terms say store sales are final and partial periods are not refunded, so any refund request goes to Apple or Google.
