Wanderlog Review: Live Group Editing on One Map, Free Email Imports and Pro From £4.99

Wanderlog review: what the free trip planner does, what Pro adds (offline, route optimiser, Gmail import), UK prices, group plans and Wanderlog vs TripIt.

Wanderlog Review: Live Group Editing on One Map, Free Email Imports and Pro From £4.99

Wanderlog is a trip planner that puts your itinerary and a map on the same screen. Add a restaurant in Seville and it drops a pin, numbers it in visiting order and draws a line to the next stop, so you can see at a glance that the tapas bar you saved is a 40-minute walk from everything else that day.

We like it for two specific reasons: several people can edit the same trip at once, which ends the shared-spreadsheet era of group holidays, and the free version already imports bookings from forwarded confirmation emails. Here is our Wanderlog review: what is free, what Wanderlog Pro adds, what it costs in the UK and how it compares with TripIt and Polarsteps.

Our verdict

Wanderlog is the best free planner we have looked at for building a day-by-day trip with a map, and the collaboration is excellent for groups. Most people will never need to pay. The catch is that the features you want most once you land (offline access, route optimisation and export to Google Maps) are the ones behind Pro, and the app can slow down on very long itineraries.

Pros

  • Itinerary and map side by side, with stops numbered and linked in order
  • Real-time group editing with edit or view-only permissions
  • Free booking import by forwarding confirmation emails
  • Free budgeting and expense tracking
  • Works on phone, tablet, Mac and in a browser, all in sync
  • 4.9 on the UK App Store from 3,800 ratings

Cons

  • Offline access needs Pro, which is awkward abroad without data
  • Route optimisation and Google Maps export are Pro features
  • AI assistant is limited to 5 free messages
  • UK App Store prices vary widely, so check what you are offered
  • Users report sluggish scrolling on big, multi-week trips

What Wanderlog does and who it is for

Wanderlog combines three things that usually live in different apps: a list of places to visit, a day-by-day plan and a map. You search for places (each shows photos, opening hours, ratings, the website and phone number), drag them into days, add times and notes, and Wanderlog plots it all.

Where it earns its keep:

  • A hen weekend in Lisbon for eight. One person builds the skeleton, everybody adds restaurants and bars, and the budget tab keeps track of who paid for the Time Out Market lunch.
  • A two-week road trip around Scotland. Add Fort William, Skye and Ullapool, see the drive time between each, and spot the day where you have planned six hours behind the wheel.
  • A first visit to Tokyo. Pull in a published list of sights with one tap, then sort them by neighbourhood so you are not crossing the city three times a day.

It is overkill for a weekend in Brighton with one hotel and a Sunday roast booked.

Is Wanderlog free? Free vs Pro features

The free plan is genuinely useful. It covers unlimited places, the itinerary builder, the colour-coded map, live collaboration, imported flight, hotel and car hire bookings, recommendations, budgeting and expense tracking, checklists and a flight tracker.

To import a booking free, you forward the confirmation email to Wanderlog. Pro adds automatic Gmail scanning, so you do not have to forward anything.

Wanderlog Pro adds:

  • Offline access on your phone
  • Route optimisation, which reorders a day’s stops into the shortest sensible loop
  • Export to Google Maps
  • Automatic Gmail scanning for bookings
  • Unlimited attachments and unlimited AI assistant messages (free users get 5)
  • Dark mode, plus flight and car hire deals

Wanderlog price: Pro plans and the cheapest way to pay

Wanderlog’s own list price for Pro is $39.99 a year. The UK App Store lists a spread of price points for the same product, which suggests prices vary by offer, region and when you subscribed. Dollar and euro figures for UK prices are conversions.

Wanderlog ProUK priceUS$€
Monthly£4.99 or £12.99$6.65 or $17.31€5.92 or €15.42
Annual (App Store range)£24.99 to £59.99$33.30 to $79.94€29.66 to €71.19
Annual (Wanderlog list price)about £30.01$39.99€35.61
Annual “20% discount” listing£39.99$53.29€47.46

The cheapest way to pay. Plan the whole trip on the free version first. Upgrade only in the week before you travel if you need offline access, and pick the monthly plan if this is a one-off trip, since a single month at £4.99 covers a fortnight abroad. If you travel several times a year, annual works out cheaper. Whatever you choose, cancel the trial before it ends if you only wanted a look.

Wanderlog features that matter

The map. Every day gets its own colour, and stops are joined in order. It is the clearest way we know to spot a day that zig-zags across a city.

Collaboration. Invite tripmates by email or link and choose edit or view-only. Changes appear live, so the person in charge of restaurants and the person in charge of trains are not overwriting each other.

Road trips. Unlimited stops, drive times and distances between them, and daily driving totals.

Booking import. Forward confirmation emails from airlines, hotels or Airbnb and they land in the right place. Jaci, an Australian user on Trustpilot, noted in July 2026 that this does not always work first time, so check the trip after forwarding.

Offline. Pro only. On the free plan, screenshot the day’s plan before you leave the hotel Wi-Fi in Florence.

Platforms. iPhone, iPad, Android, a browser version and a Mac app for Apple silicon. There is no Apple Watch app.

Privacy and safety

Wanderlog’s App Store privacy label lists name, email, user ID, product usage, user content (photos, videos and support messages) and diagnostics as data linked to you, used for app functionality, analytics, personalisation and advertising or marketing. Location and contacts are collected but not linked to your identity. Gmail scanning, a Pro feature, requires connecting your Google account; forwarding emails manually avoids that. When DailyStoke looked, we found no regulator action against Wanderlog.

Shared trips are visible to anyone you give the link to, so be careful with flight numbers and hotel details in publicly shared guides.

What users say about Wanderlog

Wanderlog scores 4.9 out of 5 from 3,800 ratings on the UK App Store and 4.6 from about 35,500 reviews on Google Play. Trustpilot is gloomier at 1.9 from just 51 reviews, and Trustpilot notes that Wanderlog does not invite customers to review there.

NGTodd, on the UK App Store in January 2024, liked the map: “The map overview is a perfect tool for ensuring you don’t miss something that is just around the corner”.

Ben B., on Google Play in April 2026, objected to the subscription model: “I would pay £30 as a one off.”

Logan C., on Google Play in July 2026, found big trips heavy going: “It’s now super super choppy especially when scrolling on the trip dashboard with all the sections”.

Lisa from New Zealand, on Trustpilot in August 2026, disliked the upgrade prompt: “The app forces a free trial which I’m not interested in.”

How to get started with Wanderlog, and how to cancel

  1. Download Wanderlog from the App Store or Google Play, or open wanderlog.com.
  2. Create a trip with your destination and dates.
  3. Invite tripmates by email or link, and set edit or view-only access.
  4. Add places from search or from published lists, then drag them into days.
  5. Forward booking confirmation emails so flights and hotels appear in the plan.
  6. Before you fly, decide whether you need Pro for offline access.

Cancelling Wanderlog Pro. On iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Wanderlog, Cancel Subscription. On Android: Google Play, your profile icon, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, Wanderlog, Cancel. Deleting the app does not cancel a store subscription, and refunds for store purchases are handled by Apple or Google.

Pick Wanderlog for planning what you will do each day, especially with friends.

Pick TripIt if most of your trips are flights and hotels for work and you want everything pulled from your inbox automatically; its Pro tier adds real-time flight alerts.

Pick Polarsteps for the other end of the trip: logging where you went and turning it into a journal. Plenty of people plan in Wanderlog and track in Polarsteps. See our Polarsteps review.

Wanderlog alternatives

  • TripIt: the inbox-to-itinerary veteran, strong on flights.
  • Google Maps lists: free, offline maps included, but no day-by-day plan or group budgeting.
  • Polarsteps: for tracking and journaling rather than planning.
  • Hostelworld: if you are planning a backpacking route, its Travel Plans feature helps you meet people going the same way. Read our Hostelworld review.
