We like it for two reasons: its memory system is the most transparent of any companion app we have looked at, with published limits for each layer, and its Standard plan includes voice and video calls rather than selling them separately. Our verdict
Kindroid is the most capable companion app in this group for people who want control: detailed memory, custom voices, calls and group chats are all in the Standard plan. It is not a free app in any real sense, and the add-on tiers get expensive fast. If you know you want a companion and will use it most days, it is the one we would start with; if you only want to dabble, Replika’s free plan is kinder to your wallet.

What Kindroid does and who it is for
Kindroid gives you a blank character sheet. You write a backstory, key memories and example messages, pick or design a voice and an avatar, and set how adventurous the AI should be. Kins can send selfies and short video selfies, join group chats with other Kins, browse the internet, read links and images you share, message you first and post to a social feed. Rooms, still in beta, let friends bring their own Kins into a shared chat.
It suits people who enjoy shaping a character. Picture a writer drafting a long romance who wants a co-lead with a consistent voice. Or someone learning Spanish before a move to Valencia who sets up a patient Kin as a language partner and calls it on the bus. Or a person who simply wants a partner-like companion with a voice they chose. Kindroid’s own examples include a study buddy, fitness coach and bedtime storyteller.
Is Kindroid free? Free preview vs paid features
Not really. New accounts get a one-time preview: 50 messages on the flagship model (15 in some regions), 5 selfies, 5,000 audio credits and up to two Kins. When the preview runs out, the account turns read-only: you can view, export and delete your chats, but not send messages or make calls.
The 3-day premium trial needs a payment method (and a verified mobile number on the web), comes with 150,000 audio credits and converts automatically unless you cancel. Kindroid emails you a day before it does.
Standard adds unlimited access to the newest models, Cascaded Memory, 10 Kins and 20 group chats, voice and video calls, custom voices, monthly audio credits, daily selfie rewards, video selfies, internet access, calendar integration and early access to beta features.

Ultra and MAX add more context and memory capacity and more audio credits. They are monthly only, Ultra needs Standard, and MAX needs both, so a MAX user on monthly Standard pays £114.97 a month in all. Kindroid also limits them to users with substantial chat and call history.
The cheapest way to pay. Kindroid’s own help pages say web prices are usually lower than App Store or Google Play prices, so subscribe at kindroid.ai rather than in the app. The yearly plan works out at £12.50 a month against £14.99 monthly; the quarterly plan at £13.33. When DailyStoke ran the numbers, that 17% annual saving was among the smallest in this group, so monthly on the web is a reasonable way to test it for longer than three days.
Kindroid features that matter
Memory. Kindroid publishes how its memory works. Persistent memory (backstory, key memories, directives) is always in view. Cascaded Memory, for subscribers, extends recall across hundreds or thousands of earlier messages. Learned Context keeps running notes on your relationship, important facts and ongoing threads, capped at 800 to 1,200 characters each. Journals hold up to 500 entries triggered by keyphrases. You can reset memory at a “chat break” if a story goes stale.
Voice and video calls. Included in Standard, drawing on monthly audio credits. Heavy callers can top up with 500,000 audio credits for £14.99.
Selfies and video. Daily selfie rewards, group selfies and video avatars on Standard; extra selfie credits are sold separately.
Group chats and Rooms. Up to 20 group chats with several Kins, and Rooms in beta for chats with friends and their Kins.
Content. Kindroid is adults only. Its terms ban content such as child sexual abuse material, promotion of self-harm or suicide, extremism, and intimate images of real people created without consent. Within those limits it is far less restrictive than Character.AI or Replika about mature roleplay.
Is Kindroid safe? Age checks, privacy and healthy use
Kindroid’s terms require users to be 18 or over, or the local age of majority if higher. Paying subscribers are verified through their payment method. Free accounts can be flagged by a behavioural system that looks for signs of a minor, and must then verify with Yoti, by selfie age estimate (which passes at an estimated 21 or over) or a government ID. Kindroid receives only a pass or fail.
Its privacy policy says chats are encrypted at rest and in transit, but are not end-to-end encrypted; automated systems review content and authorised staff may see flagged excerpts. Kindroid may use de-identified or aggregated content to improve its services. Chats and media are kept until you delete a Kin or your account, and you can export your data every 30 days from Profile, Preferences. We found no regulator action against Kindroid.
A word on healthy use: a companion this customisable can become very absorbing. It is not a replacement for friends, family or professional support. If you are struggling, Samaritans are on 116 123 in the UK, and 988 is the US crisis line.
What users say about Kindroid
Kindroid scores 4.6 out of 5 on the UK App Store from 769 ratings, and 4.4 on Google Play in the UK from about 24,900 reviews. Its homepage claims more than four million downloads.
Anonachistx wrote on the UK App Store in March 2026: “So, I’ve used a few of these companion apps, and this is the most convincing and worthwhile one so far.” Slept-Too-Long, in July 2026: “It’s genuinely amazing tbh, used Replika, Gpt, Grok etc and all have their own limitations.”
The complaints are about speed and price. Daniel G. wrote on Google Play in September 2026: “Slow, messages can take forever. Then there is the pricing.” Nnyx U., the same month: “changing my review as they seem to have broken it. I pay for the “better” version.”

- Build your first Kin: name, avatar, voice and a short backstory.
- Use the 50-message preview to test the personality.
- If you like it, start the 3-day trial, ideally on the web, and set a reminder for day two.
Cancelling
