Coveron Review: Identity Theft Insurance From US$5.99 a Month, With Up to US$2 Million of Cover

Identity theft rarely starts with anything dramatic. A data breach at a retailer you shopped with years ago, a parcel scam text, a cloned card: by the time you notice, someone may have opened a credit line in your name. Coveron is Nord Security’s answer, a US service that watches for your details leaking and pays towards the clean-up if the worst happens. It used to be called NordProtect, and it has changed quickly since launch, so we went back to the official pricing page, the insurer and the help centre to see what you actually get.

What Coveron is and who owns it

Coveron is an identity theft and scam protection service from Nord Security, the cybersecurity group behind NordVPN, NordPass and the Saily eSIM. It launched in November 2024 as an extra for US customers on NordVPN’s top-tier Prime plan, became a standalone product in the US in March 2025, and took the Coveron name on 26 May 2026. Existing NordProtect subscriptions moved across automatically.

The service has two halves. The first is monitoring: Coveron watches the dark web, your credit file and, on higher plans, your bank transactions and criminal records for signs that your identity is being misused. The second is insurance: if you become a victim, a master policy issued by HSB Specialty Insurance Company reimburses eligible costs and gives you a case manager to help sort out the mess. Credit monitoring and the credit lock are provided through TransUnion.

Coveron prices and plans

Coveron lists prices in US dollars only; the sterling and euro figures are conversions for reference. The page shows introductory prices for the first 12 or 24 months and notes that sales tax may apply.

Scam Protection is the entry plan: dark web monitoring, malware breach alerts, online fraud insurance up to US$100,000 and cyberattack insurance up to US$10,000. It has no identity theft insurance or credit monitoring.

Identity Theft Protection is the plan most single adults will want. It adds identity theft insurance up to US$2 million, cyber extortion and home title insurance up to US$100,000 each, one-bureau credit monitoring, a credit lock, short-term loan and financial account monitoring, criminal records monitoring and identity theft recovery.

Full Protection switches to three-bureau credit monitoring and bundles NordVPN, Nord’s next-gen antivirus, Incogni personal data removal, bank transaction monitoring (US accounts only), and call and message protection (message protection is Android only).

Couple and Family plans carry the Full Protection feature set. Adults get every benefit; children get dark web monitoring, including Social Security Number monitoring. Only the main account holder can add a child and see that child’s alerts. One important detail sits in the FAQ: the US$2 million identity theft limit applies to the family plan as a whole, as a shared limit, not per person.

Free trial and money-back guarantee

There is no free trial and no free plan. What Coveron does offer free is a “Have I been hacked?” web scanner that shows whether your email address appears in known leaks. Every paid plan, including the family ones, comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee: if you are not satisfied within 30 days, you can ask for a full refund.

A worked example: the couple plan saving

Take a married couple in Austin, Texas, both working, with two children and a mortgage. They want three-bureau credit monitoring for both adults, Social Security Number monitoring for the children, and cover for home title fraud.

Two separate 2-year Full Protection plans would cost 2 × US$239.76, or US$479.52 (£359.83 / €427.06). Full Couple Protection covers both adults and all the children for US$407.76 (£305.98 / €363.15), a saving of US$71.76 (£53.85 / €63.91) over two years. Against the struck-through list price for a single Full Protection plan, US$671.76 (£504.09 / €598.27), the 2-year intro price of US$239.76 (£179.92 / €213.53) saves US$432 (£324.17 / €384.74).

The catch with the couple plan is the shared US$2 million identity theft limit. For most households that is ample; it is still worth knowing before you choose it over two individual policies.

Key features

  • Dark web monitoring: 24/7 scanning for your email addresses, phone numbers, Social Security Number and other identifiers in leaked data.
  • Credit monitoring and credit lock: one bureau on Identity Theft Protection, three bureaus on Full Protection, through TransUnion, with a VantageScore 3.0 credit score.
  • Financial and loan monitoring: alerts on short-term loans and financial accounts opened in your name.
  • Criminal records monitoring: flags records that may be linked to your identity.
  • Malware breach alerts: warnings when your credentials show up in data stolen by malware.
  • Bundled Nord tools: NordVPN, next-gen antivirus and Incogni data removal on Full Protection and family plans.
  • Call and Message Protection: scam call and text screening on Full Protection; message protection is Android only.

Identity theft recovery costs can include legal fees, lost wages, child or elder care, and mental health counselling. Home title cover pays towards recovering a stolen deed, such as attorney fees, court filing fees and title recording costs.

Where it is available: Coveron is sold in the United States only. Its insurance benefits are available to residents of the US, US territories and the District of Columbia, with the exception of New York. Readers in the UK and Europe cannot buy it. Nord Security has said that NordVPN customers in the UK, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Germany and Italy can instead get scam loss and online shopping fraud recovery as cyber insurance benefits in some NordVPN bundles; our NordVPN Threat Protection review explains how NordVPN’s plans are put together.

Claims process

  1. Scam and fraud losses: file the claim from your Coveron account dashboard. A specialist then helps you through it.
  2. Identity theft: to get a restoration case manager, file a claim with HSB, the insurer. The case manager helps with credit bureaus, creditors and paperwork.
  3. Documents: keep police reports, bank statements, receipts for legal fees and records of lost wages, as reimbursement depends on evidence.
  4. Payment: Coveron says eligible claims are processed within a few weeks of all the required information being submitted.

Exclusions and existing problems

The insurance is not a blank cheque. Each benefit has its own limit, set out above, and the maximum for identity theft is the figure stated in your policy. When Nord Security added online fraud cover in 2025, it said investment scams were excluded. Insurance benefits do not extend to New York residents, and credit monitoring will not start until TransUnion has verified your identity with a valid Social Security Number. Coveron also states plainly that no single product can prevent identity theft or monitor every transaction, and that dark web monitoring cannot cover every site where data may leak.

Coveron’s public pages do not spell out how it treats fraud that began before you signed up. If you already suspect your identity has been misused, read the HSB policy terms in your account, or call Coveron, before relying on it for that problem.

How to sign up and use Coveron

  1. Run the free “Have I been hacked?” scan on Coveron’s homepage to see what is already exposed.
  2. Choose a plan and term on the pricing page and pay by Visa, Mastercard, Amex, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay or another listed method.
  3. Log in to the Coveron dashboard through your Nord Account and switch on multi-factor authentication.
  4. Read and accept the disclosure agreement.
  5. Complete identity verification: enter your details, choose how to receive a passcode, type it in and, if asked, answer security questions.
  6. Add the identifiers you want watched, such as extra email addresses, phone numbers and cards, and set up the credit lock.
  7. On a family plan, invite the other adults and add the children.

Privacy and security

Handing a company your Social Security Number is a leap of faith, so it matters who holds it. Coveron is run by Nord Security, whose NordVPN arm has had its no-logs policy independently assessed six times. Access to Coveron goes through the Nord Account with multi-factor authentication required at setup. On family plans, adults cannot see each other’s data or the children’s alerts; only the main account holder can see a child’s information.

App ratings and what users say

Coveron is managed through a web dashboard rather than its own phone app; the VPN, antivirus and call protection in Full Protection run through NordVPN’s apps. On Trustpilot, Coveron scores 4.1 out of 5, but from only 15 reviews, partly merged from its NordProtect days, so treat that figure with care.

The positive reviews describe easy setup, useful dark web alerts and helpful, patient support after a scam. The negative ones describe a failed identity verification that locked a reviewer out for 30 days without a clear explanation, a lack of transparency about which data sources are used for verification, and repeated prompts to buy add-ons. Coveron replies to all of its negative reviews.

Customer service

Coveron lists a US phone line, 1-866-777-5561, and says real experts are available at any time. Help articles sit in the NordVPN help centre, and claims for identity theft restoration are handled through HSB’s case managers.

Aura is the obvious rival. Its Individual plan costs US$12 a month on annual billing, with three-bureau monitoring, US$1 million of insurance underwritten by American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida, a 14-day free trial and a 60-day refund window on annual plans. Coveron’s Full Protection, which also has three-bureau monitoring, costs US$131.88 (£98.96 / €117.45) for the first 12 months, US$12.12 (£9.09 / €10.79) less than Aura’s US$144 a year, with twice the identity theft limit. Aura counters with its free trial and a longer refund window.

Norton’s identity bundle, Norton 360 with LifeLock Select, costs US$189.99 (£142.57 / €169.21) for the first year and adds Norton’s antivirus and VPN for 10 devices, with a 60-day money-back guarantee on annual plans. Bitdefender and Norton make more sense if malware protection is the main purchase and identity cover is the extra. For privacy that starts with your inbox, see our Proton Mail review.

Coveron FAQs

What is Coveron?
Coveron is an identity theft and scam protection service from Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN. It combines dark web, credit and account monitoring with insurance issued by HSB Specialty Insurance Company.

Yes. NordProtect was renamed Coveron on 26 May 2026, and existing subscriptions transferred automatically.

No Promo Code is needed. Discounts are applied automatically on Coveron’s pricing page, with Identity Theft Protection from US$5.99 a month (£4.49 / €5.33) on a 2-year plan.

Is Coveron available in the UK?
No. Coveron is sold in the United States only, and its insurance benefits exclude New York residents.

How much identity theft insurance does Coveron include?
Up to US$2 million on Identity Theft Protection, Full Protection and the couple and family plans. On family plans that limit is shared across the household.

No. It offers a free data leak scanner and a 30-day money-back guarantee on every plan.

Is Coveron legit?
Coveron is run by Nord Security, and its insurance is issued by HSB Specialty Insurance Company, with credit monitoring through TransUnion. It is a young brand with a small number of public reviews.

Coveron vs Aura: which is better?
Coveron offers a higher identity theft limit for less money on a 1-year term. Aura offers a 14-day free trial, a 60-day refund window on annual plans and three-bureau monitoring on its entry plan.

What does Coveron’s family plan cover?
Full Family Protection covers up to five adults and all children under one subscription. Adults get every Full Protection benefit; children get dark web monitoring, including Social Security Number monitoring.

Verdict

Coveron is a sensible, well-priced identity theft service with a big insurance limit and a trusted parent company. For a US household that already uses NordVPN, Full Protection is a tidy way to put monitoring, insurance, a VPN and antivirus on one bill, and the couple plan makes the numbers work for families.

It is still a young product. The coverage limits have changed several times since launch, the family limit is shared, renewal prices are not on the pricing page and there is no free trial. Aura is the safer pick if you want to test before you pay. If you want the most cover per dollar, Coveron is hard to beat. And if you live outside the US, look at NordVPN’s bundles instead.
