Merewether Surfboard Club clinched the 2019 nudie Australian Boardriders Battle National Final title on Sunday after triumphing at Newcastle Beach, not far from their home.
The New South Wales club won their first nudie crown after beating two-time nudie champions Snapper Rocks Surfriders, as well as North Shelly Boardriders and North Shore Boardriders in the final team heat.
President Jesse Adam had a hand in hauling in his club’s maiden nudie trophy, and he called their triumph “the best day ever,” per WorldSurfLeague.com:
“This is the best day ever. All of the team members are such legends I can’t believe how proud I am of them all. We had two of our guys pull out of the team with injuries so we had a different lineup to normal and came in with low expectations. After coming so close a few times and feeling the heartbreak of just missing the win, this has made it all worth it – and to do it at home is so sick.”
