The World Superyacht Awards. The History
The World Superyacht Awards takes place in the honor of those that have contributed to the innovation and construction of some of the world’s finest luxury yachts. The idea of conducting the World Superyacht Awards was presented more than 13 years ago. At that time, yachting awards were arranged by publications and judged by organizations.
The guiding philosophy of the World Superyacht Awards was created back in 2005 when the Boat International Media envisioned putting the decision-making in the hands of some of the experienced yacht owners. The desire of having a judging system where the latest and greatest projects are judged transparently by the superyacht owners led to the creation of one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the world.
About the World Superyacht Awards 2019
The 14th annual edition of the World Superyacht Awards 2019 is to be held in London from May 16-18. The ceremony will be attended by some elite personalities, including superyacht owners, designers and shipyard executives in the town of Old Billingsgate.
Starting from May 16…
The occasion begins with social activities involving a country day at West Wycombe House or a day at St George’s Hill Golf Club. Following this, the guests will be entertained at the iconic Belmond British Pullman before joining the welcome party, which will be held at Kensington Palace.
The main World Superyacht Awards 2019 event, however, will be held on the evening of Saturday, May 18 when guests will be entertained through a champagne reception, dinner and the awards.
As the different types of yacht are designed and constructed based on a range of philosophies, the categories for nominations have been defined as sailing yachts, planning motor yachts, displacement motor yachts and semi-displacement motor yachts. Each year, an average of 20 owners make up the judging while the judges serve as a minimum three and maximum six years on the panel.
