Yes, we all heard the news.
Von Miller was injured on the last snap of one of the midweek practices, and will miss a minimum of three months (although that seems to be optimistic).
But fret not Denver fans, this team can still make some noise in 2020, especially with another year of Drew Lock under center.
This team has been built on defense over the years, and future Hall of Famer Miller was the key cog. Football, though, has always been a next man up sport, and the Broncos could be better prepared to deal with this problem than some other teams.
Monday night, Denver will take on AFC runner-up Tennessee in the final game of 16 on NFL Opening Weekend, and the line has swung dramatically towards the Titans over the last week. Denver was a slight -1.5 favorite, but are now +3 with Betrivers and most other books.
When the line moves so much, it means that most of the betting public is taking the Titans. But there is some good news for Denver fans: the Broncos have been very good over the years in home openers at Mile High (now Empower Field at Mile High), thanks to the altitude advantage.
Denver has won seven-straight home openers, 22 of its last 25, 26 of 30, and 30 of 35, and 41 of 50 (with one tie) over the years. Teams just do not do well in the altitude of Denver. It has also helped that this team is usually good, especially over the last two-plus decades.
So while many are using the Miller injury to take a look at the Titans, I think that the Broncos may be able to find a way to put up enough points to win this contest. Remember, Denver averaged just 15.9 points last season in the first 11 games without Lock, which went up 5.5 points to 21.4 in Lock’s five starts.
If the Broncos can get into the 20s, they should have a decent chance.

Picks: There was a lot of hype around the Broncos, then Von Miller was lost for the season, and the line swung five points towards the Titans. Denver has won seven-straight home openers, and makes it eight. I will take Denver -1 on the alternate line at +133.
Top Prop Bet: Broncos over 19.5 points (-114)
