Organisers of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris want to include surfing as one of the competition’s official sports and will campaign for its part in the competition.
Skateboarding, climbing and breakdancing have also been included in the 2024 Summer Olympics program as sports the organisers want to feature in France. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make a decision and either confirm or deny surfing’s spot in December 2020.
Fernando Aguerre serves as president of the International Surfing Association (ISA), and he reacted positive to the news:
“We are excited and humbled that Paris 2024 has included surfing on the list of proposed sports for their Olympic Games. France has a rich and deep tradition in surfing. The country hosted the most important events in the ISA calendar as well as a multitude of annual, top-level professional events, France is also the proud home to some of the world’s best surfers.”
