Juventus vs Atletico Madrid prediction
Juventus host Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and they will be hoping to turn around a 2-0 defict from the first leg or face another fruitless Champions League campaign.
The Turin side haven’t won a European title since 1996 and have lost two of the last five Champions League finals. The Bianconerri purchased the competition’s top goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer with the obvious intent of ending their hoodoo this season however they nonetheless find themselves facing a strong chance of elimination against an Atletico Madrid side who have also lost two Champions League finals in the last five years. With a seventh consuective league title all but in the bag and no chance of a domestic double, Juventus fans would have undoubtably been hungry for a tase of European success this season, however to achieve that goal, they will not only have to overcome their own personal hoodoo- aswell as not winning the tournament, Juventus have lost the most finals of any side in the Europe- Juventus will have to become just the third team to win the Champions League having won their league by double digits. Indeed, only Inter Milan have won Europe’s top prize following mulitiple title wins having sealed their fifth shortly before securing a treble in 2010.
Meanwhile Atletico Madrid are more or less out of the league title race, sitting seven points behind Barcelona with 11 games to go. With old foes Real Madrid out of the competition, Diego Simeone’s team will be confident that could win their first European title should they overcome Juve in Turin. That the final is being hosted in their own stadium adds an extra incentive for the visitors and one would fancy them to get the result they need to progress to the quarter finals.
Diego Simeone’s team know exactly how to play with a lead away from home and Juventus will be forced to come out of their comfort and be much more proactive in searching for a goal if they want to advance. This opens up space for Griezmann and Morata to attack in behind the home side’s aging backline and bag an all important away goal which will more or less see them through.
